Word is that ey do get Leon Washington.....

Allso.....Bouchette is reporting steelers were going to release Holmes after this failed drug test if couldnt resign him.
  • krazie45
Yea, he was really "tarnishing" the steelers image when he was catching touchdowns and winning them a superbowl....amazing how quickly steelers fans turned on this guy. I love how he's being talked about like he's Vick or OJ....hell even the Ricky comparison is off. I don't recall seeing Santonio quitting football to go live in Thailand or whatever. As a Browns and Ohio State fan, I cannot be happier at this situation for 3 reasons: I can root for Santonio guilt free, the steelers are now a worse team, and the steelers got robbed in a trade in a rare misfire by their front office.

This was not a trade to get a quality player or draft pick in return....What don't you understand about getting rid of someone who is a poison to your team? This was a move that had to be made because he was going to continue making a bad impression on the Steelers' organization. Considering how much he has tarnished the organization's image, I wouldn't have been too surprised if they just released him if no one was willing to offer anything in return. As an OSU fan, it's embarrassing that this guy has gone out and put a bad name to the Steelers and Buckeyes. He has all the talent in the world and continues to make irresponsible decisions that hurt himself and the people around him. Not only has he made a bad name for the Steelers, but the Buckeyes as well. Pittsburgh is lucky they even got a draft pick for this clown. I was thinking maybe someone would offer a pair of dirty socks for Holmes....Or at least it would have been polite to offer a thorough cleaning to remove all the marijuana residue he left behind.
How poisonous was he during the Super Bowl? If he is poisonous, then Big Ben must be kryptonite.

Listen, I understand trading him because of his legal troubles. However, to get a fifth round pick in return is the definition of getting fleeced. Holmes is only 26 and is entering the prime years of his career. It was a complete knee-jerk reaction. As Non has stated, they should have waited until draft day to explore other options.

    Sometimes....Enough is a enough.

Last year of his contract.............suspended 4 games for failing a drug test..........still a pending legal issue and could miss more time.......not resigning him........and when you add it all it sometimes enught is enough.

About being a cancer..I dont buy it reallly. Its ust the Rooneys are fed up with the whole situation. Some ask...why not ben. Um..well...then you guys are idiots if you dont see the big picture.

Holmes was gonna be gone.......getting suspended...even more...twittering about smokin weed......still in trouble....it all adds up to him getting dealt. They wwere so pissed the reports are they were gonna release him in not team wanted him.

    So..they get a RB in the deal..s

so is it confirmed that they get leon washington?...he could really help out our KR/PR

Restricted free agent Leon Washington is not part of the Santonio Holmes trade, according to SI's Peter King.

It's still possible that he could be dealt after signing his one-year tender, but King is certain that Leon is not part of this trade. King also updates that the pick acquired by the Steelers was the 151st overall, not the 155th. As long as Washington doesn't end up in Pittsburgh, this deal is robbery for the Jets.

You're only 12 hours late to the party

I had to work all night and just found out bub.
  • Puddle Jumper
Steelers were going to release him anyways if he couldn't be traded. So getting something for him even if it was a 5th round pick.He is suspended but it just hasn't been made public.

Now the Steelers have more holes to fill than high draft choices. Their OL was a mess last season, and the DL wasn't that great. Now you've got a huge void to fill in the receiving corps as well.

When Ben finally gets charged for domestic violence or rape, that will create another question mark. ;)

The 4 game suspension is breaking news on ESPNEWS.

we now have the slowest receiving core in the league

thavoice wrote: No doubt. No way ARE knew or was told of this. He knew that Holmes/Ward were the top two guys, and he was brought in to battle for the 3 spot vs the young Wallace. A vet receiver doesnt get decent money and come in and say "im competing for the 4th WR spot". The three slot is a routine set in the offense so ya get alotta PT that way.
Randle El said he was TOLD he was going to be the #3. Not that he believed he would be, that he was TOLD. He also was TOLD he wasn't brought in to be a returner. There is no way he came in with any misconceptions of supplanting Wallace. He clearly got clarification as to what his role would be before deciding to sign the contract.

So they knew he was gonna fail the test? By all accounts this is just recent........

You obviously haven't seen Wallace run.
  • krazie45
Wallace is no different from Nate Washington....great down the field threat but needs great receivers around him to open it up for him to go downfield..

Plus Sweed may show up and surprise this season. Stranger things have happened. And to the people on here saying the Steelers got screwed on this deal, they were going to outright realease him. So to get anything for him is a plus. I'm just glad that the team I root for has the class and the balls to get rid of this piece of shit.

The next LOL will come when Ben is traded for a 6th rounder and a backup QB. These Steelers fans will be on here saying how much Ben sucks after sucking his dick for the past couple months.

Sweed has shown a couple signs of life in preseason games, making a couple circus catches the last two years. However, he has struggled at times catching the easy passes. The nice thing about Sweed is that he has a solid head on his shoulders and has continued to work hard. He was a stud at Texas and hopefully will hit a surge soon to prove all the haters wrong. The physical ability is definitely there, he just needs some refinement.
