Santonio Holmes traded to the Jets

So keep him on roster and just sit him. Don't essentially just give him away to the Jets.LJ wrote:

5th round? Wow.
The Jets are apparently trying to make a killing with their recent interest in receivers with criminal records. Between Edwards and Holmes, the crime rate in Jersey/NYC just shot through the roof. -
miller45452003HAHAHAH LMAO!!!!!!! Where's Capone at??? And who the fuck is gonna catch the ball in Shitzburgh?/?? I love it!!! BOTTOM FEEDERS this year!!

hoops23Wait a minute... Why trade Holmes and not Big Ben if the Steelers "don't fuck around".. Big Ben has had TWO separate incidents.

You think there was a chance they were gonna pay him what he wanted after this next season???? No fucking way.devil1197 wrote:
No, its not better.killer_ewok wrote: He was very good for the Steelers and he served his purpose but he wasn't going to be a Steeler after this season regardless with his contract situation. I guess a 5th rounder is better than nothing if you look at it that way.
You keep him on the team, have him play 12 games plus the playoffs assuming the Steerlers make it.
Then you let him walk if he was truly going to leave anyways. What is the odds that a 5th rounder is going to turn into a solid starter?
They just sped up the inevitable and got something in return....even if it wasn't very much. -

I said I was annoyed with the trade, as in, I don't agree with it, but I feel that was their line of thinking.CinciX12 wrote:

What I am saying is that Holmes will probably give you more production within his 12 games plus than this years 5th rounder will ever give the Steelers imo.killer_ewok wrote:

Contract is a big part of it. Holmes only had one year left. And he's almost certainly gonna miss 4 games....for violating the league's substance abuse policy......and tweeting about it.....in between his tweets encouraging people to kill themselves.LTrain23 wrote: Wait a minute... In the short term....sure, they're not making out on the deal. But he wasn't going to be a Steeler after this year. Almost no chance that was going to happen. Considering that.....not that bad of a trade. I'm guessing if the Steelers could've got more.....they would've.devil1197 wrote:

devil1197But you just don't make trades for a 5th rounder simply because a player isn't going to be there next season. You make trades that are decent or good if you know that player isn't coming back, but damn a 5th come on.
Steelers were better off just letting Holmes play out the season and then letting him go. Now their without a very good WR target and a 5th rounder that probably won't even see the field this coming season. -

HereticWhile they only got a 5th rounder for him, New England only paid a 4th to get Moss a few years back. That turned out to be a steal for them, as I'd expect this to turn out for the Jets, but it shows how little stock quality WRs have if they show signs of being a problem. That seems to be a position where headaches just get disposed of and if you get something good out of it, well, that's a bonus added on to getting rid of the problem.
I'd say right now, the big pressure for the Jets will be making sure "San-chise" develops. They still have the droptacular one, Edwards, don't they? With all the passing game weapons they have, they need a QB who will get them the ball with regularity. Offensively, they got where they did last year because of their running game. If the quarterback still has to be sheltered, having Holmes for 12+ games won't help them that much. -
killer_ewokI'm guessing they wanted more. Must not have been worth more to the Jets. Or anybody else. As Non said, they could package some picks together now and trade up. That's an option.
I'm with Non.....draft Golden Tate. -

A Browns fan predicts another team to be a bottom feeder HAHA the quality of material on this forum just cracks me up. There are more SPEDS on this site than any other in history. It's ironic that Shitzburgh still has 2 receivers that catch the ball better than anyone in Cleveland.miller45452003 wrote: HAHAHAH LMAO!!!!!!! Where's Capone at??? For those who don't think this is the right move, get a clue. Yes, the Steelers are losing a quality player for a 5th round pick, which is bad news. However, for a team that is losing respect more for the implications of the off-field incidents of its players, this was a MUST deal. All players throughout the league get away with too much and I think it's respectable when a team takes situations like these into its own hands instead of waiting on Goddell to send a message. These men need to be held more accountable for their actions off the field. People often forget that these are the role models of many young kids - what kind of message are they really sending when they have numerous drug charges and domestic disputes? Hats off to the Steelers for putting their fist down. Big Ben better watch out -
devil1197Respect doesn't equal W's which is all people care about anyways.

NonI understand they wanted to set an example but I still think it's a stupid trade.
They had some time before the draft to see if they could get more.
The Steelers still need to be concerned about their own team and winning next year and in the years to come and now they have to get another WR. It's unlikely they'll get a starter in the 5th round and they need to use their first and second rounders on OL and CB.
I wanted them to trade Holmes before the news broke of the four-game suspension so I don't have a problem with getting rid of him, but you have to have a plan for getting a WR. Right now it doesn't look like that. They just got rid of him and said oh well, maybe we'll get another guy sometime. -

Nothing more important than respect. People wonder why there are so many problems in the world, yet it's opinions like these that are a prime example. Wins will never be more important than a person's respect.devil1197 wrote: Respect doesn't equal W's which is all people care about anyways. -

Mike Wallace looked promising and Randel El can probably still put up good numbers. And they can do fun gadget plays again. -

Yeah. When it all comes down, nobody KNOWS that Ben ever did one illegal thing. I think we all can be 95+ percent sure that he's a big, dumb manwhore who thinks with his dick, but anything else is just assumption.killer_ewok wrote:

On one hand, Holmes is similar. He had domestic violence charges around/after being drafted that I believe were dropped (not 100%, so don't crucify me if I was wrong) AND he's involved in a woman-attacking suit that seems really bogus. But on the other hand, there's the substance abuse thing. I'm down with weed, but it is illegal and as a dude getting major money for providing entertainment, he should at least at least be not driving and toking, so a routine pull-over turns into a bust that leads to a game suspension. Or not using Internet communication devices such as Twitter to bring up how he's having a wake-n-bake day. Ben might be stupid, but Santonio seems to be advertising how stupid he is. I haven't heard stories of Ben FB'ing that he's heading down to O'Malley's Tavern and that cute chick bartender's getting fucked whether she likes it or not. -
SQ_CraziesHoly shit what a terrible move. Are they turning into the Browns? LOL, can't believe this one.
The Jets are loaded. If Sanchez can hold it together, they gotta look like favorites right now. -
