Players that skip worlds won't be able to play in Olympics

Colangelo, 65, who was named the national team's first managing director yesterday, abolished the selection committee, expressed interest in holding tryouts and left open the possibility of choosing college players.
He made it clear that high-profile N.B.A. players need not apply unless they are ready to make a commitment for two to three summers. Dozens of veteran N.B.A. players found reasons not to play in the Athens Games, and some owners were reluctant to risk their investment by having their players participate.
"I think we need a change of direction," Colangelo said during a conference call yesterday. "If we can do it the right way and change the perception the world had of our Olympic effort, which left a lot to be desired, we have to turn back the clock a bit in terms of being very respectful. We want to get back to being the No. 1 basketball country in the world, and anything short of that would not be acceptable." -

Just so we are clear. 2011, and 2012 would be a two year commitment, thus meeting what Colangelo stated in that article.Sage wrote: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/28/sports/basketball/28hoops.html

SQ_CraziesHe said in the first fucking article that free agency was a good enough excuse, read between the lines--shit. He hasn't gone back on anything he's said. Like I said, your reading comprehension is bullshit.

It started as 2 to 3, but has since moved to 3.O'Neal, 35, who wants to pursue a law enforcement career after he retires from the NBA, said the three-year commitment Colangelo wants from players makes a difference. -

No where has he ever stated in which order the 3 year commitment has to come, nor has he stated it had to be the 3 years leading up te Olympics.Sage wrote: http://findarticles.com/p/news-articles/palm-beach-post/mi_8163/is_20060107/oneal-olympic-commitment/ai_n51907857/

2011, 2012, 2013, that would work. -

http://www.netsdaily.com/2005/12/9/1348820/colangelo-wants-kidd-for-the-2008He may have traded him away in 2001, but Jerry Colangelo, now the head of USA Basketball, wants Jason Kidd to play for Uncle Sam in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kidd told writers that Colangelo contacted his agent about playing for Team USA and that he is considering it. His family has to go along, he added. Kidd, who won the gold in 2000, would have to make a three-year commitment, starting next summer. Kidd-led teams are 18-0 in international competition. -
devil1197The first article clearly states that Col said 2-3.
So summer of 11-12 will take care of that, even though is doesn't even matter.
Its okay though, you can post all the 3 year articles you want but LeBron could commit 1 week and still be on the team. -
SQ_CraziesLOL, Sage, chill. We get it. You'd have a point, IF he hadn't said that free agency was a good enough excuse.
-
Lovejoy1984Do you feel the same way you felt about things in 2005?
People's opinions change. His opinion changed from originally 2 or 3, to only 3, now it's changed to allow excused abscenses(sp) which is what Free Agency is. -

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20060105/ai_n15996636/"He looked me right in the eye and said it would be an honor for him," Colangelo said. "It was a very positive experience."
Iverson was co-captain and the leading scorer on the U.S. team that won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
Colangelo, named head of USA Basketball after the team's poor performances at the 2002 worlds and 2004 Olympics, has made it clear that the U.S. team would not be a collection of superstars hastily put together.
Instead, he wants a group, including role players, that would make a three-year commitment to participate in the camps and form a cohesive team for the worlds this year in Japan and the Olympics in Beijing. -
SQ_Crazies
That's the part you should have bolded.Instead, he wants a group, including role players, that would make a three-year commitment to participate in the camps and form a cohesive team for the worlds this year in Japan and the Olympics in Beijing.
Then they won the gold, took care of business. Get off their ass. A few will take this summer off and then win gold again in London. -

It's not okay. He has clearly asked for 3 years from everybody since the get-go. The tournament doesn't start until late August.devil1197 wrote: .... LeBron could commit 1 week and still be on the team.
It's not like he's got some life and death decision, lmao.
It's the "I'll show up for 1 week and be on the team" that got the US in to trouble in the first place.
It's fucking pathetic that these guys don't leap at the opportunity to play for Team USA. And that's what it is, an opportunity, not a god given right.
If this was somebody like Allen Iverson pulling this shit, I bet your tunes would change drastically. -
SQ_Crazies
LOL, LeBron has been on it since he was able to be. Where was your boy Kobe? He didn't want any part of it until LeBron started stealing some of his thunder. Who was a captain, who wasn't? Where was Kobe when his team sucked and he was too busy raping bitches and crying in corners about his teammates? GTFO.Sage wrote:

devil1197Someone needs to change their tampon.
The reason 2004 USA team got in trouble was the piss poor coaching decisions along with some of the guys not being mature enough to handle the big stage.
Four years of play did wonders for guys like Melo, Bron, and Wade along with the addition of one of the top coaches in college basketball. -
Lovejoy1984
Wrong. In the first link you posted he said 2 years would be ok.Sage wrote:

Wade and Bosh are both not planning on playing, and no one is ripping them.
You're only on your high horse because Kobe said he's going to play. If Kobe wasn't going to play you'd be no where to be found in this argument. -
SQ_CraziesMelo, Wade and LeBron hardly played. Larry Brown was an idiot.
-
SQ_CraziesAnd Kobe is going to play because he doesn't have shit to do this summer but practice. No one wants to shoot a movie with Kobe in it lmao.
-
Lovejoy1984Cue:
Kobe's hurt and he's going to play. -
SageThis isn't Kobe vs. LeBron, you dumb fucks.
This is about dudes who think they're above obligations to their country and those who don't. And about our pussy director who is to scared to offend premiere NBA players---which is the kinda shit he said he wasn't scared to do when he came in. And again, if this was Allen Iverson, you guys would be agreeing with me.
You guys are the ones with the fanboy complexes. -
SQ_CraziesHe has no obligation you fuck.
You're acting like he's skipping out on going to war. LMAO, it is Kobe/LeBron because we're all well aware that had Kobe not said he's playing you would be here--like someone else said, you're not trashing Wade and Bosh, you're just picking on LeBron. And I know you aren't serious because I really don't see you as stupid enough to believe LeBron wouldn't be on the team anyways... -

KnightXC1In regards to 2004, it was a mix of bad coaching and too many players saying no thanks to playing on the team. When Richard Jefferson is the best 3 point shooter on the team, then we have problems. Let's also remember that Lebron/Melo/Wade were not near the level they are at now. They should have played more but none were the dominant players they are now.
And Colangelo is still asking for a 3 year commitment from these when the roster was announced in February of this year. 2010, 11, and 12 makes it a three year deal. And if Colangelo is letting free agency as an excuse than he has less of a spine than I already thought. -
Lovejoy1984
How many movies has he been in?2quik4u wrote:

SQ_CraziesHe doesn't have time for that. He shoots 10,000 jump shots a day. He doesn't waste time doing things like movies.
In reality, he just isn't a multi-tasker like LeBron. Considering Bron is the best in the world AND gets all this shit done--truly remarkable!
