You guys should re-read the article.

No where does it say the players will be forbidden from playing in the Olympics if they don't play in the Worlds.

Just says their spot will not be guaranteed.

That's Colangelo covering his ass, so that when LeBron, Wade, and Bosh are on the Olympic team, people don't shoot down his credibility.

Um, what I really remember is being drunk as shit and screaming USA with a bunch of people in a bar while Kobe was taking over against Spain.

You don't know what you're talking about...

SQ_Crazies wrote: No, what he really said was that if you don't play just because you don't want to play then don't expect to automatically have a spot on the Olympic team. Also in the article he said that he was already aware that guys like LeBron, Wade and Melo would be busy with free agency.

So basically, free agency is fine, but he doesn't want other guys to follow suit and if they do without a good reason then they don't have a guaranteed spot at the Olympics.

Sometimes you have to read through the media BS and twist in their attempt to make a story out of it and realize what is really being said. They tried to make it seem like these guys might not get a chance and that would obviously be a big story, but he basically said they were excused. Colangelo is not a big enough idiot to hold any of them off the team anyways--EVERYONE would be calling for his resignation the day he announced someone like LeBron or Wade wouldn't be on the team. They're such a tight group, I also wouldn't be surprised if the other players would step up and say something about it. But the article says those guys will be safe, despite trying to hint otherwise.
That was my first post in this thread.

LeBron isn't going to be left off the team. Neither will any of the other big names that want to take this summer off.

haha i think its funny when they say they are too busy to go play.

Kobe was the alpha dog in the Olympics. (Look no further than the Spain game). It was also Melo, LBJ, and Wade who came away impressed with Kobe's 6 AM workouts.

Also, if LBJ wants to go to the Olympics, he knows the deal.

He wants to do business things and do movies. I wish hed just be honest about it.
  • SQ_Crazies
    SMH.
  • Big Red Monster
They are setting a huge prescedent if LeBron skips this summer and then is allowed to play in the Olympics.

I have to side with Sage on this argument.

I should've claified. Those saying LeBron won't be on the team, was who this was directed too.

What I find hilarious is that the Olympics are in 2012. So they have all next summer, and then the Summer of '12 to rejoin the team.

It's not like the Olympics start in November of '10. I don't see the big deal with guys taking a break for one year, rejoining the team next offseason and preparing.

that was probably the same thinking when we got the bronze in 04....plus are there any events next summer? why not just take next summer off and play 2-3 weeks this summer?
  • Lovejoy1984
What got the bronze in 04 was the fact that they had a group of all-stars not a "team".

    New update from Colangelo:

Last week LeBron James and Dwyane Wade basically said they would skip the World Championships this summer because of their hectic schedules and free agency. This led USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo to say that anyone who missed the tournament would not be guaranteed a spot on the 2012 Olympic Team. James followed that up by saying he didn't like someone questioning his commitment to the squad.

Speaking to Sun Media Monday, Colangelo clarified his statement which raised the ire of James.

"We appreciate the fact they're willing to give their time. We have to be flexible," Colangelo said. "Some players may have to miss for whatever the reason may be -- contracts, injuries, family issues ... free agency this year is big."

"The point I made regarding London is, we will give credit for all the equity people have put into it," Colangelo added. "Chris Bosh has equity, so does Dwyane Wade, so does LeBron. Things happen. We just have to be flexible."
  • SQ_Crazies
LMAO, they won bronze in '04 because we had a moron of a coach who didn't play the right guys.

It's not the first time the US didn't win gold...
  • devil1197
Haha, where are all the people saying Colangelo wouldn't back down???

Like I said, LeBron will always be on the USA team. He is the best player in the world.
  • SQ_Crazies
SMH @ the haters. Coming out in full force about anything and everything now.

I hope LeBron gets another speeding ticket this week, I want to see how big the story gets.
  • devil1197
I just wanted to know if they really thought that Col would not let LeBron back on the roster.

    SMGDMFH.
  • Lovejoy1984
Nope, they were just being trolls, trying to get a reaction.
  • Sage
Not hating. If Colangelo wants to be a hypocrite, that's on him. This is the culture that fucked us a mere 6 years ago.

But, whatever. If that's his stance, then that's on him.
  • devil1197
    He isn't a hypocrite.

Its not his fault that you cannot comprehend what he said last week. It never stated that a player missing World's would not be allowed to play in the Olympics.
  • Sage
He's said all along he wanted 3 year commitments at a time from every body.

To play in the Olympics, you would need to commit this summer to do so.

Sounds like you're the one who has a hard time comprehending.
  • devil1197
    Really?

The first paragraph says that players without an approve alibi will have the "RISK" of not playing in the olympics. Their spot wouldn't be guaranteed but that article never stated once that if LeBron skipped out this summer he wouldn't be allowed to play.

Although he would LIKE a three year commitments, he understands that certain players have a huge summer coming up.

You just tried to take a line or two and blow them up to hate on Bron.
  • SQ_Crazies
You're the one who has terrible reading comprehension dumbass.
  • Sage
IM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FUCKING ARTICLE.

IM TALKING ABOUT WHEN HE FIRST CAME IN AND SAID HE WAS GOING TO CHANGE THE CULTURE OF US BASKETBALL AND DEMAND 3 YEAR COMMITMENTS FROM EVERY PLAYER, REGARDLESS OF STATUS.

Jesus christ. I wish there was a crayon setting so this would be easier for you guys.

Do you have a link where he said that then?

I am just going off of recent factual information.
  • Sage
And regardless if Colangelo goes back on his word, it doesn't change the fact that Wade & Bron (and anybody else who skips out but still wants to play in the Olympics) is a douche bag.

They clearly think they're above the Worlds and just want to walk into London and get a medal. Well guess what? The world has caught up to us. These guys need to play together, and World's is a big part of that.
