Cedar Point - Best things to do

  • Apple
Have any of you gone to Cedar Point recently?

I've never been there and will be taking my gf and my brother's 2 kids, (age 10 & 12), to the park in early August.

We'll be going mid-week, need hotel accommodations for 2 nights. Will have 1-1/2 days at the park... maybe 1 at water park and 1/2 day on rides.

Do you have any suggestions on going to Cedar Point and doing these things? Know of any package deals to look for?

    Thanks!

I know the waterpark is newly revamped, but I always wanted to spend more time in CP riding the rollercoasters than on the water rides. Hotel Breakers is part of the park, so that's the most convenient hotel, but there are lots of others nearby. I also like the little cabins and cottages in the campground.

You can usually get cheaper tickets at Kroger. There was a Groupon for tickets earlier in the year, might want to see if it's still good.

Cedar Point isn't really my thing, it's a great park, but not the biggest fan of coasters. The Raptor and Maverick are great though.

I'm not big into amusement parks, but the kids are coming up from Florida and we thought CP would be a great place to go. They've always enjoyed water parks.

I am sure the new water park is nice, but it would be a shame to come all the way from FL and not experience the best amusement park in the world for more than 1/2 a day. IMO, of course.

Agreed. And depending on how busy, a half day may only be a few coasters. If they are tall enough I'd do as many coasters as possible.

Cedar Point is the best theme park bar none. I used to live nearby and went often. It's one of the things I really miss about Ohio.

The recommendations about staying at the Breakers was right on. They just did a makeover to it a couple of years ago and it is very nice. If you are interested in riding the coasters, buy Fast Passes for everyone in your party. They aren't cheap, but you will get many more riding opportunities than you would otherwise.

Have a great time. For my money Cedar Point on a nice summer day, with a nice breeze off the lake, makes you feel like a big kid.

All of this especially the fast passes they will cut your wait time by at least 50%. I don't know if they still do it but they used to let you in an hour early to the park and ride certain rides if you stayed at Hotel Breakers. You should also be able to find 2 days passes they included both the water park and amusement park since you are planning on doing both.

I've heard the wait times are atrocious. Probably do it on purpose, so they can push the "fast pass" even more.

Greatest park in the world. Don't buy the food if you can avoid it as its ridiculously overpriced.

Ride Maverick, Millennium and Top Thrill (if working) in that order when the park first opens.
Wait until 7:30-8PM to ride Valrvan. Line should be under 30 minutes by then.
Do not ride Raptor in first four hours, line will fall in half by mid-day.
Gatekeeper can be ridden anytime, the line goes fast.

There is an app that give wait times while in the park.

    All of this is confirmed.

And not very good, except the Berardi's fries. I expect Melt to have a long line.

Book one of the new cabins at the Sandusky KOA campground and eat at Red Gables across the street for a nice dinner - Jack's Deli right next door if you want a bomb ass sub (but the owner is goofy and the place seemed to be open and weird times any more). If you want Pizza go with Cameo's Pizza in downtown Sandusky.

Nice, but overpriced for the area. Prefer Zinc.

Also, Chet and Matt's is basically the same. Prefer Brick Oven.

I'd adjust and do the water park 1/2 a day and CP a full day.

Wait, can't you do a podcast and write it off as a business expense?

LOL! Now there you go... get a plug in for OhioPodcast.com! We had Lake Erie Shores & Islands tourism folks on the Sandusky Speedway podcast a couple weeks ago on the Fast Lane Sports Show. It's one of the reasons we're going to CP, plus I have family coming over from Europe who we will be meeting up with on Put-In-Bay before we go to CP.

My brother, the kid's father, lost his battle with cancer in early 2014. He set up funds for his kids to do things just like this so there's really no need to do any business expense write-offs. ...but great idea!
  • Apple
Thanks for all the great ideas! I'll talk with the kids and see if they'd like to spend more time at the park or doing the water park. I appreciate all the insight everyone has given. Thanks!

Fast Lane Passes.....period. I won't go to another amusement park without purchasing one.

3 coasters that MUST be ridden every trip to CP.

    Raptor
    Millenium
    Maverick

Ill say I think the Raptor is the best coaster ever made. It's still amazing, and it opened in 1994. Just incredible that the "wow" factor hasn't waned too much in a quarter century

Agreed on this list and analysis.

Like I said before, I'm not a coaster fan. The Raptor was the first coaster I ever road and I LOVED it. Usually try and ride it twice whenever I go to CP.

Have you ever rode The Beast? Trying to decide if you're ignorant of how great the beast is, or just have horrible horrible coaster taste.

Going Friday. Can't wait. Taking some friends that have never been. Got the fast lane plus passes. So excited.
