I love a good dog, but don't really have a go to place. My only rule for a hotdog is no catsup. -
gutWhy did I think this thread was going to be about Anthony Weiner?
And what sort of elitist snob decided a hotdog was too good for ketchup? It's literally the crap that didn't make the cut to be part of our other food we DO put ketchup on. Chicago-style has a couple slices of tomato on it - but don't you dare put any liquified tomato on it! -

No, it's not about taste. It's about some apparent breach of etiquette to put ketchup on a hot dog, like something a poor, unrefined person would do. Not as bad as ketchup on a NY Strip, but apparently pretty damn close:justincredible;1845302 wrote:We have different tastes! Gasp!

"One of the heads of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs in NYC referred to putting ketchup on a hot dog as a sign of a 'less sophisticated' palate."

I suppose so....I just never understood how people can be snobs about what crap you put on your hot dog (which itself is processed leftover crap pressed into a wannabe sausage).justincredible;1845306 wrote:Well, catsup is kinda shitty (I do put it on fries). Sugary tomato goop. -
HereticI don't use catsup on anything. Hope this helps.

BRFWhich is correct!
catsup or ketchup?
Is it a regional thing? -
Ironman92If your sophistication level permits you to eat hotdogs...you shant have no opinions on people adding catsup to a hot dog.
Also...if you're eating hot dogs, palate should not be any part of any discussion.
SMH. White Castle customers shouldn't lower themselves by also ordering chicken rings. Stop. -

I do ketchup but whatever.BRF;1845324 wrote:Which is correct!

Belly35The type of mustard on a hot dog or coney is important...
Good old yellow mustard is a must anything different is a failure of taste -
OSHFYI, today is "opening day" so Skyline has free coney with purchase of a drink. Don't know if this applies at all of them, but it does at the Cincy-area ones.
I'm thrilled. I'll get some. Being gone for so long, having Skyline is refreshing. -

HereticYeah. Plain yellow vs. stadium. Not even a contest in favor of stadium.

Well, in fairness, the only time I ever eat hot dogs is when I'm hanging with friends grilling. And even then, I'll go for the brats and burgers and only go for the dogs if they're the only thing left.Ironman92;1845345 wrote:If your sophistication level permits you to eat hotdogs...you shant have no opinions on people adding catsup to a hot dog.

BRFI like yellow mustard on a coney, but never use it on anything else. There are several kinds of awesome brown mustards I like instead. (Two are Koops' Horseradish and Great Lakes Dortmunder)

gutSteamed, boiled or charred?
-
Belly35
that depends on the situation, each has its value but that does create a different combo of condiment appliedgut;1845459 wrote:Steamed, boiled or charred?
steamed/boiled ... Yellow mustard, ketchup, onions, relish
Pan fried .... Mustard onions
open fire or grilled ... Yellow mustard, onion, ketchup
deep fryer... Mustard , ketchup
I have my standards ..... Cheap yellow mustard on hot dogs and coneys
that fancy mustard is used in gourmet cooking ...
