Anyone ever had a Maaco paint job?

  Heading up to Columbus tomorrow to let them evaluate my car's painting needs. I've heard good and bad but they are the only place that might have what I need and don't care to put into my car.
  
  I drive a 2005 Accord that has lived outside all 11 years and over 190,000 miles. I drive a long way to school but don't want to put $1200-$2000 into a paint job for a car that old. The black paint and clear coat is fading big time on the hood, trunk and the top of all side panels. Maaco has a $399 job but worried my clear coat issue will take it to the pricey range.

  Someone keyed my daughter's car, which is an old honda civic. I bought into their advertisement for a cheap paint job too. The quote was several thousand dollars because they said they couldn't just paint over the scratches.

  Yeah, I'm figuring on an early morning trip to Columbus and then a mid/late morning return.

  I had Earl Scheib paint my 1975 Dodge Coronet once - he promised "any color, $99.95". It almost matched.

  Had a friend who got a car painted by them many years ago. Ended up flaking off, didn't cure well on the front end and all they'd do was offer some touch up. Granted, this was Maaco in Dayton which seemed quite shady and/or like mafia ran. If wanting to keep the car and have it look good, don't go to Maaco. If you'll be selling the car within a few years, ok....maybe go with the cheap paint job.
  
  Where are you coming from? Confident you can find a much better local paint shop.

  They gave a 3 year for $795 out the door. Went about 10 miles away in Columbus to another Maaco and the guy said they had the same owner and no way could he do it for that price. His number was $1100

  Practically guarantee if you try returning the car within the 3 year "warranty" they won't do shit for ya. Did they give any details as for the preparation? Whats different?
  imo- The price variance should be the first sign how Maaco is dishonest.
  
  Do you have a finishing sander? Do you feel like doing some prep work yourself to save a few hundred bucks? Quite frankly you'd be better off doing some of the prep work yourself and taking it to some (Earl Scheib wanna-be) like "Budget paint and body", 2846 W Broad St, Columbus, OH.

  I'm going with a local guy. He's going to do it for a $1,000. I at least know and trust this guy.
  
  I can't sand my own car. I suck at most projects. Right now trying to rip up old carpet and put down laminate. Everyone made it sound so easy...then I rip up carpet (easy), rip up foam pad (mostly easy but glued down part pulled up old gross tile underneath), pulled up carpet tack board (rotten, screwed and nailed in and a pain in the ass. Almost every piece pulled up a layer of crumbled tile and it took a while and the mess was ridiculous)......got thin foam pad taped down and I think I'm ready to try laying it later. I'll be shocked if it turns out good with me doing it.

  I am not great either, but being a homeowner I just learn by doing...with a lot of Fbombs in between.
  
  Did laminate twice at family members houses. My suggestion would be to...wear knee pads. (insert joke here). First time my knees hurt so bad from kneeling on the hard floor! The toughest part other than what you already have done is going around possible obstacles but other than that the last part is the easiest.

  Nothing to work around other than cutting some when it gets to the wall. No clue how to tie it in with the carpeted hallway. Google will be my friend.

  As you probably know, after that first length and you cut it to fit, use the leftover to start the next row.

  1000$ for cosmetic work on a 11 year old car with 200k is too much

  Thank You. It has plenty of life left, the inside is excellent and car is in otherwise excellent condition. It's my car for another 4+ years.
  
  
  
  This is also starting under each window and fender well. It's been paid off for 8 years and it's getting a good paint job for a $1,000.

  (knocking on wood...) My accord has 287,000 plus on it right now and still getting 33mph when I make long drives so yeah, it very well may have lot of life left.

  I owned a mower with a Honda engine. Does that count?
