Dayton Ohio is #1!

Failure of the public school system program of test and measurements
  • SnotBubbles
Huge epidemic all over Ohio. 3 of the top cities on that list. No area too small or large. Two of my best friends are a police sergeant and a lawyer in a small city, they have made me very aware of how serious of a problem it is.

It's sad that this is what the Buckeye State leads the nation in.

How deep is the problem and in what (drug) areas? And are you talking about our home area?

It everywhere in Columbus. The high schools are filled with it. It includes Worthington Dublin Westerville Pickerington and Gahanna. Not many places in Ohio are not being effected

Heroin, and deep. So deep that they can't keep a supply of Narcan on hand because they're using it too frequently. Yes, the city north of our hometown.

Dang. I honestly have zero clue if heroin is bad where I am. Freaking crazy. How are kids using it? Needles? Snorting? Smoking? Butthole?

I assume needles, but haven't asked.

    Butthole is #2.

When I tell people in Chicago I'm from Ohio they reference the heroin problem. Crazy shit. Why the fuck are so many kids doing heroin in Ohio?
  • Automatik
Because prescription opioids are harder to come by these days so they resort to heroin.

It's not just Ohio and strictly lower/middle class areas. It's also a major problem here in Staten Island and Long Island.

Ohio is awful though. Every few months I'll see someone share a local news article where someone I know of has gotten arrested for drug related offenses.

Heroin has gotten a few in my hometown in southeastern Ohio. I hear it's awful.

There's a big sheriff election in November, one is apparently running to clean it up because it's been swept under by previous administration for so long. He wants to clean out the whole department and start brand new.

Dublin recently voted to keep a heroin overdose drug on hand (naloxone)

I just don't get it. Why would you inject that shit into your body knowing full well the ramifications and risks that go along with it?

I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has ever tried heroin, and if so, what made them even want to try it? What is the appeal to a drug so deadly?

I honestly think the Narcan is part of the problem now. They know that if they OD, they will get brought back. My police buddy told me that they have one lady who calls right before she shoots up and the paramedics and police show up with Narcan in hand and revive her. She's done it at least 5 times now and they've had to administer the Narcan 3 times to her because she OD'd and was gone. Dumb.

Naloxone is Narcan. Narcan is just the brand name (naloxone the actual drug). Stuff is pretty amazing if you do some research on it.

I don't get it either. What makes someone want to try heroin or crack or something like that? Everyone knows (I think) that there is no good outcome after you do it.

How do those people not end up in jail? Or do they just keep going back into the system?

I think it's a good idea to have it in the school if the problem is as bad as it seems to be. My daughter goes to Dublin and according to her there are lots of drugs there.

For many, it starts with becoming addicted to prescription painkillers. If you can't afford to buy pills, you buy heroin. My brother had a collapsed lung and had to have emergency surgery. I visited him in the hospital the next day and he was so high on pain medication that he fell asleep in the middle of our conversation multiple times. I knew in my bones that he would become addicted to pills, and he did. It came as no surprise to me that he ended up using heroin down the road. He'll never not be an addict, but he's clean for now. Not everyone has the support network he has, nor the multiple chances he's had. He had (and still has) the absolute best shot any criminal/addict can have, and still he's fucked up multiple times. It truly enlightened me to the fact that once you're addicted to drugs and/or living a life of crime (theft, burglary, etc.), it's so fucking hard to turn it around.

I have never done it but, I know a ton of people who have. They are all the same story. They start by abusing painkillers either thru a prescription or stealing their parents to get high. Eventually they are addicted and either the pills are to expensive or they can't find some so they turn to Heroin. They reason with themselves that their just smoking it so it's okay. Then from there they start shooting up to get the high faster.

Parents need to to be parents and watch their kids and know where they are and who they are with. You don' this need to be a friend you need to be a parent.

My wife and I both work in healthcare in ER/ICU settings in Dayton. When I told her about this article without skipping a beat she said "yep, no shit."

This will get worse before it gets better, in that sense. The FDA approved an intranasal form of naloxone in November, so addicts will be able to keep it on their person for anyone with them to use if needed. But you can't really say it's a bad thing without saying that drug addicts are better off dead.

I'm only pissed about its approval because it was invented by one of my professors at UK and he was the biggest asshole I've ever met.
