School me. What's the best over the counter product? Looking at the one below, as I've heard Petsafe is cheap.

that cable looks pretty small for burial cable. It doesn't specify its gauge either. That would worry me since your fence wont work with breaks in the wire.

I don't have a dog but a couple of my neighbors have put in a wireless system that doesn't require anycables. The transmitter is put inside in a central location and then monitors when the dog is nearing some predetermined distance. Seems to work ok once it's set up correctly.

Buy online. I was researching for awhile a few weeks ago and found some top rated systems for around $300. I think we are just going to put up a real fence though.

My issue/worry with the wireless is whether or not it's a set radius. My area will be misshaped, and the base will not be at a central source.

I paid the money and had invisible fence install at my house. After spending $3600 for a fence and $1600 for sit means sit. The $1500 for the invisible fence has been the only thing to keep my dogs in my yard. I've had it since January and not one issue with dogs getting out of my yard.

When I was researching, the PetSafe Yardmax kept coming up, but I don't know if it was hype or for real. The one you linked was on a few of the lists. Some websites will let you upgrade to thicker wire and things like that too.

Or teach your dog to stay in your yard. $0. If Cletus can do it, any dog can.

Ive have had 10 or more dogs, everyone was trained not to leave the yard, stop on command and no matter what come back to the back door. Not one of my dogs have ever crossed the property line ... no fence, no leash, no wires .... fear of what they don't know ...

Lunge line training .... two days of training and your dog will be forever linked to your house and you

Congrats. There's more than 10 dogs in the world and you couldn't train them all. I'm glad you've been lucky.

I bought one at Meijer (think Innotek brand) a while back and installed the line myself. Total cost around $150. Worked like a charm on my pug. Battery in the collar would go out every year or so.

My neighbor had his professionally installed spending over $1000 and his golden retriever would run through the line to chase rabbits. He would then come back to the yard and stand on the other side of the fence barking cause it didn't want to get zapped again coming into the yard. He had invisible fence out multiple times to try and adjust the fence but his dog didn't care about getting zapped if he was chasing something.

Luck has nothing to do with it ... Dog training experience, dedication to your pet and working with your pet.
CDX Champion with four different dogs at some of the biggest events in the US and Canada.
Any dog can be trained if the owner willing to teach... In ten minute I could train any dog to never move more than 10 feet from the owner side. Re enforce this behavior for one week and this dog will never stray away for the house without the owner.

any dog can be trained... to certain extents. Every dog has limitations just like everything else. Every dog has different tendencies. Not 100% of dogs will be trained to always stay in their yard. If you believe otherwise, you're out of your mind lol

I did not know that OC requires specified data for making comments pretaining to general topics of interest. Will 100 % of the dog population be trained to stay within a given back yard area no but generally speaking a family pet has a very high % to achieve this behavior with proper training. For the cost of a chocked collar and a 20 foot lunge line ....
Note: if your pet has other behavior issue those will have to be addressed also. It like training a millennial you have to fix the thinking process before they learn to listen. :)

Hey dumbasses, get off your high horses and recommend a dog fence brand.

I have the petsafe wireless fence. One transmitter in the house and one in the barn and it works great. The only time I have issues is when I forget to change the battery but the newer versions have rechargeable collars.

Invisible fence if you're not handy. any other one if you can do shit for yourself.

Didn't buy the wireless. Has to be a level yard and mine isn't , transmitter has to be inside garage or covered area, and the area to keep the dog in has to be a circle area. I've had the under ground systems and they worked well but the wires can be cut (accidental digging, yard aeration). It's work to bury the cable but can be done with a sidewalk edger or shovel. WTF is up your butt? Do you think adding lol to the end of the sentence makes you not look like a dick? I'm guessing ernest t got that I was kidding.

If you guys are wondering why there is no one on here anymore, there's your answer.

I think, right now, it's whether or not I care to do the work (because of time restraints). I can pay b/t $500-$600 and do it myself, or $1400 to have someone come out and do it, as well as train the dogs. And I don't have to do shit... except continue training of the dogs when he leaves.

no the lol was laughing at you for trying to deny you gave a shitty, condescending response to etb, in disguise as a "joke".
