High school reunions

  • friendfromlowry
I was added to my high school graduating class's Facebook group today as our 10-year reunion will be next year. I didn't attend the five year reunion and from what I heard it was a flop, but people seem interested in the ten year. I actually couldn't care less. With social media, I can keep in touch with anyone I want to already. I've always wondered if there's less interest in reunions with the emergence of social media.

Did you go to any of your reunions? Do you plan to?

My 10 year was in 2013. Didn't go, didn't care. Heard it was a drunken good time though.

Haven't had my ten yr yet, but I won't go. DGAF.

Someone posted "I hope there will be booze there" -- like we're fucking 19 and can't just go buy it at the store right now apparently.

    5 year...,dumb, did not go

    10 year....did not go

20 year....did go and glad that I went. It was good to see many many people

Will go to 25 year in 2 years and that experience will determine further goings

    Not interested in any reunions.

I have went to all of my class reunions. We had our 35th last year. Our reunions are pretty well attended.

I didn't like you when we were in school, nothing has changed.

Reunions are gay! If I didn't talk to you when we were in school, then I sure as hell don't want to talk to you now!

How very high schoolish of you.

Went to our 10 year. I have mixed feelings. I was a stupid drunk then. Went out to the bar with a pregnant wife, and I wanted to keep partying. I'd entertain the idea of attending the 20 year. Didn't have a 15 year.

I didn't attend my 10 year and we didn't have a five year. With social media, reunions seem outdated. I stay in contact with the people that I want to talk to. On the flip side, I can easily see who I don't want to talk to.

I don't enjoy conversations that include:

    1) what are you up to now?
    2) what am i up to now?
    3) remember that time?

Another reason why I don't go to the popular bars around my hometown.

When to my 10 year .... not really that much fun, a small group of us who hung out together took off early. Had a great time at John's bar... closed the place down.

When to our 25th reunion.... same thing happen...

The 40th reunion the Class before and below all got together .... That turned out really good

Few weeks ago we had a Class of 1968 we all turned 65/66 birthday party ... good time

Our class will be have just little get together from now on and combine the class of 67/69 to our parties.

My wife's hometown (very small town, graduates b/t 40/50 every year) has an entire town/all classes reunion about every 3 years. Much more successful.

Agree totally on social media making them basically irrelevant. Our class president, who is supposed or organize, lives in LA. We had a total flop of a 5 year, and haven't attempted one since. I doubt we ever actually have one.

I didn't go to my 5 or 10 year reunions and from what I saw on Facebook both were flops.

I talk to zero people that I went to high school with. Most of them are idiots. I was valedictorian of our class and played varsity basketball but I only hung out with the basketball team and cheerleaders and talked to no one else.

Where are my basketball teammates and cheerleaders now? About 5% have a useful life contributing positively to society and the other 95% have kids, work shit jobs, and are still idiots. No thanks.

Went to the 5-year. Had a decent time and all, but was a bit annoyed at how quickly many people reverted back to "high school clique" stuff. Haven't been to any since then. I'm sure I'd still have a decent time, but I have current-day friends I'd rather hang out with than going to check out what a bunch of people I really DGAF about have been up to over the past however many years. Life's too short to waste on low-tier "social obligations" when you have better things to do.

Didnt have a 5 year, didnt go to 10, 15 or 20. Decided to go to the 25 year and wished I hadnt. Instead of having it near town, the holy rollers didnt want anywhere that served alcohol and so our reunion was 15 miles away at a family resort type place. 12 people showed up and only 1 did I care to see again! Last time I go. I still see and hang out with a couple of guys I played sports with, but that is it.

Went to my 10 year reunion. I'm glad I did. I'll make every effort to go to any reunion I can (except my college, unless it's not hosted by those crappy administrators).

I am big on relationships. I enjoy chatting with people, especially those that I spent 4-13 years of my life with (some I went K-12 grade with). It's good to catch up and get to know what people have done since we've been away from each other.

It sucks when you hear of a classmate dying. We've lost maybe 5 people from our high school class (176 people). Died too young. Left behind young children. I don't like missing out on seeing people if I have the chance because I never know if I'd get to see them again.

When I (rarely) talk to my high school buddies, we often revert back to stupid shit we did in HS. Same old jokes, same old shenanigans. Shit never gets old. At least in my own warped mind.

Your thoughts are punny considering your name

I went to a very small high school and I'm also in the Facebook group for our reunions. I've never gone and from what I've seen the few people I would want to see haven't either.
