Freddie Gray/Baltimore Riots

But what does mean something is that your assertion about what 2nd degree assault is, was totally wrong.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1725100 wrote:Yeah ... As one inclusion.
and the fact it's from Washington state means absolutely positively nothing here.
But why let those facts cloud your biased opinion?
Here's the reality.
The kid was no angel, had been arrested a couple dozen times and a couple of them were for violent offenses.
The kid should obviously not have died in police custody, an investigation should happen and proper charges brought against whatever officers were involved.
The riots are completely stupid and make no sense from a political/policy reasoning.
I completely believe there was some wrong doing, the only other explanation would be some freak accident (not likely).
I completely understand the outrage.
I completely understand the protesting.
Those rioting are complete morons and yes, they are acting like animals (I would say and have said the same thing about white idiots that riot because of sports teams, like Ohio St). -
ZoltanThe rioting is very childish. The police have supposedly been hurting them for years, and they want to get back at them. It's a temper tantrum.
If what the cops are accused of is true, it is systematic and much worse. Heads would need to roll in the BPD. Would peaceful protests have accomplished that? Did some violence, and increased profile of the situation help that cause? It probably will. It's almost an impossible situation. -

Honestly, Baltimore is a shit hole. The only city worse is by far Detroit. I bet there are riots going on right now in Detroit and no one cares; that's how trash Detroit is. -

I read about half (48%) of the police force is black.QuakerOats;1725114 wrote:The mayor is black

The key for Baltimore, when it comes to how dire the socio-economic issues lie, is just like many other major metropolitan areas like Chicago, Detroit, etc.
They have been run by progressive liberals for decades and the cities have been run into the ground socio-economically speaking. I don't care about white, black, purple, but it is quite obvious when one political belief system has been running these cities for decades and the cities keep getting worse, where the blame lies.
Notice that NYC started to turn around its violent crimes and the streets got better when miraculously NYC elected a more conservative mayor in Giuliani? I wouldn't say Rudy was truly a conservative, but he was MUCH more conservative anyone that had been elected to NYC mayor's office in a LONG time. The city got better during his terms. -
gutI mean the "solution" is really fucking simple - stop committing crimes, and don't give the cops shit for doing their job.
If I had to deal with that trash every day then once in a while I'm going to give a "rough ride" to a dirt bag that pissed me off. And if you force me to get physical, I'm probably going to hit you a few more times than I need to.
I think most people don't appreciate the tremendous amount of self-restraint cops need to have all day EVERY day. And I'm sure the cops who work the rough neighborhoods have bad days, and I'm sure the crap they deal with on a daily basis can lead them to overreactions and mistakes.
Maybe we need to look at more rotation of cops between good and bad neighborhoods. If you deal with bangers every day, some probably develop too much of an edge. Go ticket little old ladies for a while and it might restore some sense of balance. -

It's unfortunate this viewpoint will never gain any traction because it's not politically correct. But I think it's the absolute truth.gut;1725122 wrote:I mean the "solution" is really fucking simple - stop committing crimes, and don't give the cops shit for doing their job.

The point about rotation is really interesting. Not only do cops in bad areas seem the same stuff all day, they see a lot of the same people. I would be willing to bet if Freddie Gray was arrested that many times the cops already knew him. Doing a ride along in a bad area of Columbus I was amazed that the cop knew almost all the names of the people standing around the corners. He had arrested them, their dads, their uncles, etc.gut;1725122 wrote:I mean the "solution" is really fucking simple - stop committing crimes, and don't give the cops shit for doing their job.

If you keep moving cops around, they do not learn the area and potential problems. You are not only giving criminals a huge advantage in terms of committing crimes, but you also are putting the safety of the officers in danger.Zoltan;1725201 wrote:The point about rotation is really interesting. I disagree and I actually like gut's idea of moving cops around. I'm not a cop, but I can tell you the general "danger" areas of the DC metro area. I think cops are smart and communicate often enough that it wouldn't be a problem but I do think they need a break from dealing with the intense stress of their job day in day out.Al Bundy;1725203 wrote:If you keep moving cops around, they do not learn the area and potential problems. thavoiceThe rotation isnt a bad idea. It keeps everyone away from getting complacent, can give cops time to regroup when they are in the lower crime areas.
I would think always having the shitty area would wear on ya pretty bad. -
gut6-0 BAL with 1 out in the bottom of the first. LMFAO. Sox wishing a riot would cancel this game, but the seats are empty!

That is certainly the downside. The cop was probably better at his job in some ways because he could ID suspects himself, knew every alley, and certain danger houses and areas.Al Bundy;1725203 wrote:If you keep moving cops around, they do not learn the area and potential problems. True. But I think this is a case where you sacrifice some potential benefits to help reduce the far superior negative; which are riots from the trash of the Earth effectively shutting down the city and adding fuel to the ignorant fires.Zoltan;1725246 wrote:That is certainly the downside. hey reading this sh** too right now. Freedom of speech tho. So when you can absolutely show me the 1st amendment where it explicitly says you can’t say “kill all cops,” then I’ll delete my status."
