90 foot long double wide straight forward driveway , plus additional 225 foot circular driveway attached for a total of 315 double wide driveway…. Shove my ass fuck that idea, neighbor kid not going to happen, paid snow plow service or new snow blower… I took the new snow blower method for the exercise and control to do my drive when I want

Plus the snowplow guy rip up the yard, added cost to repair and after two or three plowing there no place to push the snow anymore .. at 15 heavy snows the new snow blower paid for itself which I figure will take only 3 years

Just drive over the snow. Everyone else does it across the country.

    Or, get a shorter driveway.

My driveway is 200' long. I used to shovel and it sucked. I got a snowblower and what used to take an hour now takes 10 minutes and very little sweat on my part. No way in hell I'm going back to the old way.

I have a 4 ft. wide shovel (more of plow style than shovel) and I can do my driveway twice as fast as my neighbor who has a snow blower. Same size drive. Works in wet/heavy snow just as well. My drive is double wide and about 70' long. Takes me about 15 minutes at the most....

Put a plow on your riding mower. 200' drive done in 4 minutes.

I'm a fan of this. Whether it is a riding mower, truck, tractor, or ATV. And, you can be a nice person and get some of the street and neighbor's drives easily.

If I end up somewhere with unrelenting winter weather, I'll be doing this. It's how I grew up. My dad, uncles, granddad, or whoever was available would take the blade on the tractor and do all sorts of drives and roads.

My road is not very busy and is very low priority on the city's plow schedule. One of the neighbor kids had to plow the actual street on his ATV just so people could drive down the street. He also does a few of the elderly people on the street's driveway as well.

As far as the original question. There is no time too early to fire up your snow blower. If you have to go to work and have to get out right now, then fire it up. Totally different scenario than cutting the grass.

I agree the "drive over and go" is the best method for guys but the wife, daughters and friends that visit not so much.
The snow blower is doing a good job and making physically healther, don't mind the effort and the wife happy...

Another nice thing about a snow blower vs a plow is you can easily redirect where the snow goes. I've paid people to plow my drive and it was always a pain in the ass trying to figure out where to put the snow. (My driveway was apparently planned poorly for snow. It's 200' long with pastures on both sides. They always ended up pushing the snow all the way to the back and then I can't get into my barn)

Yeah, not that hard to do the drive over but it soon becomes packed down and very slick.
Also the sidewalks in front and on the side of the house. We get a nice lil note from the post office if the walkways arent somewhat cleared in a reasonable amount of time.
