Snow blower etiquette? How early.....

  • thavoice
    ....is too early?
Since I was such an idiot and put this first on the college football forums....

Just like in the summer on a sat/sun it seems like as soon as one person in our neighborhood fires up the machines, everyone follows suit.
Mowing was around 11am or later.
Snow blowing this am it was around when everyone started to fire up their snow blowers. On a week day when would you think it is too earlyl? Shoveled some around 630 and little before 8 the snow blowers got fired up.

My neighbors have fired up the snowblower as early as 4:30am during the week.

If necessary to clear a path so can leave for work I don't think you can be too early. We didn't get that much snow this AM that anyone should have been stuck.

Whenever you need to get out, in my opinion. Clearing the snow is not something that can wait, like a lawn.

I just swept the deck (to walk to garage), and shoveled/swept the front step, and drove over the rest. NBD.

Yeah, if it was a big enough storm where we woulda been stuck I can see doing it much earlier. I was actually waiting until i heard a neighbor do their's before I started today.

I agree with this. I think my neighbors turned the other cheek to the guy who was using his snowblower at 4:30am considering he did everyone's sidewalk on the street.

Mowing at 11AM on the weekend? Umm, no. 9AM is perfect time to start.

Snow blowing, it you need to do it to get out, no limit. If we got 2" and you fire it up at 5AM, I'm hitting you with a shovel.

Where I live the property size has 180 to 200 front footage x 270 to 300 side footage so we are not close to the neighbors.
The five joining neighbors to my property only three of us take care off our yards and driveways..mowing at 8 am is not uncommon

Snowblowing well James had his drive way snowblowen before 9 am today he does it himself... I followed starting mine at 9:20 am ... If I would have been able to get out earlier I would have..

Hell, I would be fine with 9am on the weekend. I try to get mine done during the week, thur/fri evening though.

This...I'm not going to judge anyone.
Our driveway is kind of long and winding with some spots where you can easily fall off of. I'm not going to risk my wife/daughter getting stuck or hurt. I'm cleaning mine before I go to work.

Screw Etta Kitt. I have to be to work early-so I'm blowing snow early....that is if I had a snow blower. I'm a real man and shovel my driveway out. Good exersize.

Eh. It is decent exercise I guess. WIth the driveway, the sidewalks and living on the corner lot it just can take forever. Like my lawn, I want it all looking good so last year got a snow blower. Was a good winter to get one that is for sure.
Hey...did you hear about that one team in the league who may have fired their FB coach? Rumors are swirling.....
  • Wally
Havent heard anything like that. We talking a scandal or something?

Actually my neighbor usually does my driveway with his tractor. That is never a complete job so I also finish it up with my trusty shovel.

Not really. He stayed in Columbus after the game and didnt come home with the team and didnt attend the welcome home.
A source who has a source on the staff (an assistant) said the reasoning was he stayed to scout the youth on the other two conference teams playing in the finals. Laughable excuse. An assistant from another team (not my home town) was the one who first told me about it and said the person stayed in columbus to party after the win..... In asking around it seems like many know that he is now on the shitlist but no one can confirm he has been let go.
  • Wally
Letting him go would be epically stupid, but just like that school....I hope they do it. LOL
  • thavoice
I doubt they do but it has been interesting to say the least! Maybe facs55 takes over then......or his wife.

...If I hear the township snow plow banging his blade up and down the street at 4:30 AM, then I have no problem firing up the snow blower if there is that much snow to contend with, otherwise I'll just deal with whatever is in my drive when I get home from work.

I thank you I've worked hard for what I want. My point was however the close proximity of ones neighbors should be considered when using power equipment. But I do agree that if a job had the get done for the safety of the family then do it when ever convenient for you.

I guess not many people on the OC grew up on a farm and owned acres.

I had to mow 5 acres at our house once a week from age 8-18. Took about 3 hours.

Unless you live in a state where you consistently get 24+ inches of snow regularly, no need for a blower. Use a shovel. Not able to? Smack the neighbor's boy around and he should do it.

My dad has a rather large driveway and about a half of block of sidewalk to clear (rental property). He recently got a beasty snow blower that runs on tracks. It is awesome and very helpful.

That being said, if you run your blower at 6:30am, you are a fuck.
