WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States and Cuba will start talks on normalizing full diplomatic relations, marking the most significant shift in U.S. policy toward the communist island in decades, American officials said Wednesday. The announcement comes amid a series of new confidence-building measures between the longtime foes, including the release of American Alan Gross and the freeing of three Cubans jailed in the U.S.

The minute that baby changes...take every penny you have and invest it in Cuban real estate. Cuba will easily become The Go to Place in the Carribean once normalized travel is ever established there again.

I don't think you can invest in real estate in a true communist nation

My friend just came back from a vacation there. She's from the Netherlands and the pics look amazing. Clearly the place stopped progressing in the 50's. I LOVE the cars they drive.

You'd be pissed, too, if you had to pay $10k to row a boat from Cuba to Florida.

Major League Baseball teams might be the biggest benefactor. Otherwise, not a big deal.

Cubans are "good" because they are illegal. There are better cigars out there for sure.

Better than most, sure. But Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and Dominican make pretty awesome cigars.

People know that this is only happening because of the U.S.'s embargo with Cuba combined with the Russian recession that's essentially cutoff all supplies to Cuba and turned that place into a crap-hole... right?

    Glory Days;1687651 wrote:why?
Why not? Why does it make sense to have the embargo?

I could give a whole list of reasons...but, without a good understanding of any embargo, no reasons would really mean anything.

From what I've read, Cuba had some exclusive tabbaco genetic lines that made their cigars world class. Once Cuba was hit will all these embargos, a lot of the genetic lines were moved to Nicaragua by certain families and thus the idea that Cubans are still the best cigars in the world is a thing of the past.
