They do last longer but the upfront additional cost and the additional maintenance costs are tough to recoup.
I have an f150 and an f250 diesel. I rarely use the f250 and it's definitely not as bulletproof as you'd think. As much as I use the diesel I probably should have gotten the 6.2l -
saltoZWICK your opinion pls - For the farmer wanna-be who will be hauling a horse trailer = F150 or F250?

ernest_t_bassFYI, I'll more than likely be looking for a USED truck.

My f150 has a 5.0 and the f250 has a 6.7 -

Other than a common exhaust manifold leak I think its a good engine.JD413;1644694 wrote:Is that the garbage 5.4 Triton engine? -

saltoIf buying a Ford truck the best engine is the (4.9L) 300 c.i. V6. Damn thing is bullet proof and will pull the nuts off king kong. About the same torque as the 5.0 v8 but a little less Hp.
-
ernest_t_bassA V6 for hauling a horse?
-
ernest_t_bassWhat's adv/dis over diesel/gas?
-
salto
Consider the 300 C.I. v6 is practically the same overall size as a v8, just larger cylinders. If you don't believe me look around on all the Ford forums. The 300 CI v6 is easily the best gas engine you can get in a later model Ford truck.ernest_t_bass;1645221 wrote:A V6 for hauling a horse?
Also to note- A diesel will be a pain in the ass during the winter. -

Ever notice diesels plugged into an outlet during the winter? They are trying to keep the glow plugs warmed up.ernest_t_bass;1645268 wrote:Whys that?
Theirs a long technical answer dealing with the fuel, it condensing in the winter and not wanting to ignite but simply put diesels hate winter... -
oberhausI say get a Chevy or Dodge....because you can buy either from me.

trucks! derp! -
rydawg5I've owned F150 4-door and GMC Sierra 4 door -
FORD: More space in backseat, and quality interior material much better as in no rattles, but a rough drive over bumps.
GMC: By far a smoother ride, but rattles from cheaper interior plastic.
If I had to choose I'd go GMC but the rattles are quite annoying.
