What Dreams May Come is one of my personal favs. -
SportsAndLadyIt's fucking weird. But a very good movie

bigdaddy2003Yes ^

osu45804One of my favorite Robin Williams films was "World's Greatest Dad" --- And it's kind of weird now how it's about his son in the movie who commits suicide via asphyxiation
-
Belly35Loved him in Good Will Hunting, Death Poet, Hook, Good Morning Viet Nam, Places of the Heart... I thought he was talented and creative, like others who's life was cut short we will never know the additional greatness.
i have little emotions for those who commit suicide..... I should have more compassion but I see suicide weakness. -
TiernanSuicide only hurts the family left behind and that's what the deceased is frequently hoping for - cowards.
-
Laley23Birdcage is another good one.

Fab4RunnerVery sad news. Hard to believe that someone who made so many people laugh could be that depressed. I feel for his family and friends.

cruiser_96I watched August Rush last night after seeing someone mentioned they enjoyed Robin Williams in the movie. I've had the DVD for a little over 5 years - never watched it. ...and now I know why.
Awful movie, all the way around. And Robin Williams was not good in the movie. Good thing Patch Adams and Good Will Hunting are out there. -

Of all the RW movies you've probably heard over the last 14 hours, you choose August rush?cruiser_96;1643377 wrote:I watched August Rush last night after seeing someone mentioned they enjoyed Robin Williams in the movie. I had no clue he was in it. When someone mentioned it, it reminded me that I had it. The DVD just sat in our TV stand. I didn't want to watch Good Will Hunting with my 10 and 6 year olds in the room. Those are the only two movies I have with Williams.SportsAndLady;1643378 wrote:Of all the RW movies you've probably heard over the last 14 hours, you choose August rush? -
sleeperSuicide is for poor people.

pmoney25Robin Williams was in a couple of my favorite movies as a kid. Hook and jumanji. I also enjoyed Dead Poets and Good Will Hunting.
I won't pretend to understand depression or what could cause someone to commit suicide. I do feel bad for his family.

BRFI have a feeling he was not able to handle getting older and being able to perform at an acceptable level to him.

I was just going to post this...funniest stand up bit I have ever seen.vball10set;1643360 wrote:
He was known for his comedy but I agree with most, his best work was Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. -
TiernanAlot of comedians supposedly suffer from depression / alcoholism / drug addiction etc. What's up with that?
...in b4 somebody from Cleveburgh asks if I'm a comedian -

I had heard this morning (from a doctor on the radio) that there is belief that his depression was brought on by an open heart surgery he had 5 years ago. Apparently, a lot of people with heart disease go through a depression.BRF;1643410 wrote:I have a feeling he was not able to handle getting older and being able to perform at an acceptable level to him.
I wasn't really a fan of Williams as I found his over the top nature to be a tad annoying but he was still a comic genius. When he was calm and wasn't doing that frenetic schtick, I found him to be very funny. -

If you're serious about that question and not just trying to be a dick, there's lot of reasons why a bunch of comedians suffer from depression.Tiernan;1643412 wrote:Alot of comedians supposedly suffer from depression / alcoholism / drug addiction etc. What's up with that?

You have to realize that stand-up comedy is not a glitzy thing. There are guys like Robin Williams and Seinfeld who are the exceptions and are performing in huge theaters and making millions of dollars. But most comedians spend their time toiling away in the basement of a club, or in some shitty strip mall club in the middle of nowhere to just make a living. You spend countless hours away from family and friends and you do it because you love to perform. But it's not just something you can just stop doing. Giving up on it and working a normal job almost brings that same level of depression. So it sucks. Bad.
I've battled with depression because of it. I've never contemplated suicide. But I have drank a shit load of booze after a show to try to forget the fact that I'm only making $200 that weekend and hadn't seen my wife in several days and the club put me up in a seedy motel. But comedians have the ability to take those painful experiences they are going through and look at them differently and make them funny. That doesn't make them less painful.
That's the one positive that I have found from Robin Williams' death...it has definitely opened up the door (at least among a lot of my friends) to be more open about depression and anxiety and how prevalent it is among comedians.
Also, nobody has mentioned Death to Smoochy yet. Such a great movie. -
QuakerOatsThe comedy and humor are often the mask hiding the depression, and can serve as a brief respite, but likely not enough to overcome the disease.

You have to funny first before anyone mistakes you for a comedian.Tiernan;1643412 wrote:Alot of comedians supposedly suffer from depression / alcoholism / drug addiction etc. What's up with that?

Hope this helps.
