You can't be this dense can you? I'm pretty sure your wife says words things to you.gut;1648887 wrote:How would that be a joke? Why would two black people joke about a white stereotype (especially since she giving him the verbal wrist-slap) between each other with no one else around?
If it's so racist and so oppresive, then how is it funny? You don't see white dudes in publc telling their girlfriends "you'd suck every **** in town if your mouth was big enough".
As for being "representative"....scary part is that it's a wealthy area and an upscale store. What struck me about it was the obvious difference in expectations/standards. Pretty much any woman could say that about her man....but it wasn't "typical man" she said, but "typical black man"....like I said, horribly racist comment coming from a white person, but this was a black girlfriend to her black beau. -
Manhattan BuckeyeDense? Or anecdotal? Not sure either is helpful, but in my retail work experience 90% of crimes (drive off after fueling, shoplifting) were committed by African-American males.
No one should make stereotypical judgments, but not sure it is helpful to ignore reality. Attacking the problem should be a good start. -

She was nagging him. Even if she were teasing him, why make the "racist" comment instead of just teasing him about being lazy? It was a rather matter-of-fact statement - "you're lazy like all the other black men [that I know]".rmolin73;1649254 wrote:You can't be this dense can you? Not sure why everyone gets so defensive over it. Are you surprised someone would make that comment, or surprised there are neighborhoods or social circles where the black guys are lazy - which is true of any race, but nobody else would qualify it like "you're such a lazy white guy" or "you're such a lazy jew". -
Dr Winston O'BoogieBlack people are afraid of black males when they see them on the street. Surveys regularly confirm this. There are extreme personalities on all side generally, and common sense in the middle. Someone can explain away all the problems in the black community until they're blue in the face. Blame it on all sorts of disadvantages caused by whites? After hearing all of this, most white and black people will continue to be wary around groups of young black males. Why? Because they know what they see with their own eyes day in and day out.
Stereotypes are ususally grounded in reality. As an Irish Catholic alcoholic, I will attest to this.

I've had friends frequently say "such a typical jew" if I do something cheap. They know I'm typically very generous with money so it's said as a joke. Playing off the fact if someone were watching this as an isolated incident, and was a complete idiot, they may say I validated their ignorant stereotype of Jews.gut;1649699 wrote:"you're such a lazy jew".
Luckily I don't think anyone ever creeped on our conversations and then posted it to a message board to portray a point about "all Jews." At least I don't think they did. -

Speak for yourself pal. I'm in the inner city of Toledo a lot and it's not on my way to work. When I see a group of young black males I speak to them, I'm not wary around them. They respect me and I respect them. I've never blamed the problems in black neighborhoods on whites. I'm fully aware that most are self made and still exist. Stop believing everything that you see in the media because they are a lot of blacks that relaize this as well.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1649711 wrote:Black people are afraid of black males when they see them on the street. I was putting forth an opinion that lots of white and black people share - that groups of black males are to be regarded cautiously. Is that fair? No. Is it an overreaction? Yes. Is it grounded in reality? Yes, due to the fact the fact that black males commit a disproportionate number of violent crimes. Crime statistics bare it out. Racist cops cannot be blamed for all of this.rmolin73;1649718 wrote:Speak for yourself pal. I'm in the inner city of Toledo a lot and it's not on my way to work. ZWICK 4 PREZCompletely unrelated... but there's a black girl I went to high school with who constantly is posting articles about "white privilege" on Facebook. Our high school (Canton Central Catholic) is overwhelmingly white. All of her friends are white (she doesn't even have a black persons picture on Facebook except her sister). Her husband is white. Her sisters boyfriend is white. She clearly prefers white people, yet is posting all these articles about White Privilege. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd love to see you come to the East side of DC and just have a chat with a group of young black males. LOLrmolin73;1649718 wrote:Speak for yourself pal. ZoltanBlack UFC Fighter Tyrone Woodley (from Ferguson) on making sure he is going to schools and talking to youth:
“That’s the source,” he said. “That’s where it happens. That’s where these kids start to lose value of life and of their own self-worth and respecting authority and being positive people in society. Also, in our culture, we make fun of people for being smart. We make fun of them for trying to do the right thing, and that turns us to the life and desensitizes them for whatever they’re supposed to do, so my goal is to talk to as many elementary, middle school and high schools (as I can), use my positive platform and the celebrity that we have through MMA."

I have seen countless interviews with various black members of society repeat this point. It is considered uncool in the black children's community to be smart, to study to respect authority. You can walk down the sidewalk in downtown Cleveland and see this when you see black teenagers. Many are dressed sloppily, cussing at the top of their lungs, smoking weed, etc. It is an "in your face" approach and it is on purpose to try and be cool.Zoltan;1650094 wrote:Black UFC Fighter Tyrone Woodley (from Ferguson) on making sure he is going to schools and talking to youth:

I agree. I have dealt with this mindset when dealing with certain members of my family that are the same age as me. When I would be at family functions I would hear the comments that I thought I was better than them, etc. A few times these idiots would even try and get physical after some liquid courage which didn't end well for them. I would just toss them out of the function. What I would also see is my younger cousins wanting to emulate what I have accomplished. So with my family members and the young men and women that I encounter/tutor I try to show them that the hood life isn't the way to live.Zoltan;1650094 wrote:Black UFC Fighter Tyrone Woodley (from Ferguson) on making sure he is going to schools and talking to youth:

shook_17I didn't see another thread for it but did you guys see there was another officer involved shooting? African American pull shot at an officer and the officer killed him. But you can't guess what happens next? They started rioting and shooting empty police cars. I swear these people are animals. I'll find the link and post it here later.
