Ebola Epidemic...a real Last Ship scenario?
-
TiernanThe spread of the Ebola virus is running amok in West Africa over the past 3 weeks and the idiots in Washington are still allowing planes to enter the US from this human Petrie dish. Planes from Europe (particularly France) also regularly come and go out of the 4 countries on the west central coast of Africa. It is unconscionable to me the WHO is not shutting Africa down until this is under control. And maybe it won't be...that might take care of a lot of problems if Africa was just wiped clean.

Lol. Get a fucking clue next time. There are articles on NBC News and USA Today from today where numerous doctors and researchers from CDC firmly deny this is ever going to become a problem in the USA. The Ebola virus is spread through direct transmission. You'd have to go find someone actively infected and practically drink their blood. It's not airborne, meaning you have a better chance of catching the flu than this. The only reason it's so prevalent in Africa because they're poor with little or no concept of hygiene and infection control. Did you know the Ebola outbreak actually started in March, but yet infection/death is still only happening in Africa? Not America, or Canada, or Europe, or China, or anywhere else has the capabilities of something as simple as washing their hands regularly. It's too bad, because this is something that should/could be easily preventable from spreading.Tiernan;1639772 wrote: It is unconscionable to me the WHO is not shutting Africa down until this is under control.
That quote backs up everything I just said.Ebola has spread in Africa partly because of religious customs, in which family members wash the bodies of deceased relatives to prepare them for burial.
The virus also has spread to health care workers in Africa, where six or seven patients may share a single hospital room. Hospitals in developing countries also may lack certain infection-control measures — such as special containers to dispose of syringes — that are standard in U.S. facilities,

tl;dr: Shut the fuck up. You're an idiot, as usual. Stick to arguing with salto in the basement. -
TiernanHopefully it hits the town of Lowry (wherever the fuck that is...) first.

friendfromlowryWhen faced with facts and logic, butthurt drunk is butthurt.

TiernanNope - just a lot smarter than you are dipshit. Major media is being controlled on this to reduce world wide panic, you've never seen a pandemic movie pissant?

What would be their goal? In a world of page hits and viewerships, what would major media have to gain from reducing panic in this situation?Tiernan;1639836 wrote:Nope - just a lot smarter than you are dipshit. Major media is being controlled on this to reduce world wide panic -

TiernanWHO is calling this the worst Ebola outbreak in known history and labels it an "Extremely Critical" situation in West Central Africa.
...still hoping for a Nigerian visitor to stop in Lowry. -

So we should see an uptick in the emails about of relatives who died in Nigeria and left a big lump sum inheritance and we just need to give our bank account #'s to have the money deposited????Tiernan;1640190 wrote:WHO is calling this the worst Ebola outbreak in known history and labels it an "Extremely Critical" situation in West Central Africa.

And I've provided a lot of reasoning and logic why it'll never be a problem here or anywhere with modernized medicine. Still waiting for you to defend your stance with the same. Oh wait, you can't. Because you're an idiot. Instead we get "I saw Ebola was happening in Africa when is the government going to shut down the airplanes from there!!" /TiernanTiernan;1640190 wrote:WHO is calling this the worst Ebola outbreak in known history and labels it an "Extremely Critical" situation in West Central Africa.

Also, I'm not from a town named Lowry. So you're wrong about that, too. An entire thread where you were completely wrong and made yourself look like a bigger dumbass. In other news, the sun will set later tonight. -
TiernanA lot of butt hurt coming thru in that tirade Lowry. Is it because no matter what I always kinda end up looking smarter than whoever is challenging me? I know it can be frustrating going up against somebody of my stature in life.

GoChiefsYes. Let's take a chance and invite the Ebola virus into the country. Dumbasses.

It's not really a risk. In fact it's arguably safer for the US to make sure patients are receiving proper quarantining and care. IGoChiefs;1640550 wrote:Yes. Let's take a chance and invite the Ebola virus into the country. Dumbasses.

Basically, unless you're engaging in edge play with an Ebola patient, you'll be fine. -
TiernanYou & Lowry do know the guy who says "...it can't happen here." is always the first to die in pandemic movies...right?

Don't worry about me. Unlike you, I understand how disease transmission works.Tiernan;1640570 wrote:You & Lowry do know the guy who says "...it can't happen here." is always the first to die in pandemic movies...right?
If they know he/she is infected and can take the proper precautions, it's really not that big of a risk. They probably aren't going to receive the care needed to recover in Africa, so this is essentially saving their life.GoChiefs;1640550 wrote:Yes. As Helloagain alluded to, the culture and incapabilities of Africa is what's allowing Ebola to thrive. It wouldn't and hasn't happened anywhere else besides Africa and the first case was reported back in March. -
Tiernan^^^
and thank you Dr Spock...you are soooo logical. -
GoChiefsGuess theres no such thing as the virus possibly mutating?
-
TiernanIt always mutates at least once before the hot female Dr discovers a cure.
-
TiernanDuring his presser today it sounded like Barry was gonna take credit for finding an Ebola vaccine too. Guy was on fire today. Almost had this kinda "I've been day drinking" vibe going on about him.

Virus mutation concerns generally have to do with developed resistance to existing treatment, but that isn't applicable with Ebola. So I'm guessing you're concerned about there being a shift in transmission? Not following your logic here...GoChiefs;1640577 wrote:Guess theres no such thing as the virus possibly mutating?
