Also, your response is weak. The point is that no one outside of the band cares, even though you seem intent to tell us otherwise. All you said was people who care about the band care about the band, or something like that. Derp.HitsRus;1646916 wrote:Did you figure that out all by yourself? I said...
Of course people who care about the band...care about the band. If you don't care about the band, why would you care about the band? The bigger question to ask yourself is why someone who doesn't care about the band, clicks on a thread clearly for people who care about the band, when there are literally dozens of other threads to choose from on this site.?????Gotta be a Michigan guy...SMH.[has not died down among band supporters, the band's alumni association and student band members. -
TiernanWhile I think the band sucks and this topic is tired and over...the band still kicks the scUM band's ass.

HitsRusClicking on this thread IS A CHOICE.
Look, I get it that you and others don't care about the band. Here's a thought....click on MMA, or Ice bucket challenge,...or the thread about getting up at 8 AM....and just ignore this one since you have no interest.
you said....
Ding ding ding....it's a message board and I'm posting updates on the situation for those people who are interested and/or for those who want to discuss it. Neither of those things apply to you, so just move along.Because it's a message board, a place for DISCUSSION. -

HitsRusStudent squad leaders want a role in the probe of the OSU Band and want to be witnesses to the task force reviewing the "cultural issues" of the band....they hope to prove Waters did not deserve to be fired.

In the most recent poll conducted by Columbus Business First show that nearly half the people surveyed believe that Waters was scapegoatted and was unjustifiably fired...about a third agreed he should have been held responsible...and the rest were unsure.

More disagree with TBDBITL director firing: The closer you are to Ohio State, and to Columbus, the more likely you are to say the OSU Marching Band director's firing was unjustified, according to a new poll commissioned by NBC4. If you're male and older, the same result played out in the statewide online survey, which found that overall, 45 percent of respondents said Jon Waters was wrongly scapegoated after the investigation into the band's culture, while 34 percent agreed he should have been held responsible and the rest didn't know. Interestingly, despite those numbers on the question of if OSU was wrong to fire Waters, 43 percent also said the school had no choice after finding what it did about what was going on in the band. The station promises another story tonight on a major donor who's rethinking his giving because of the school's handling of the controversy. -
vball10setWhatever the final outcome, this has been a public relations nightmare for THE OSU, and TBDBITL in particular...shame on Dr. Drake for his kneejerk reaction and not giving this matter the due process it deserved. Now, time to move on...

Move on....that is exactly what the Administration was hoping for when it fired Waters and released its kangaroo court 'investigation' and findings. The problem is that not only was it untrue, but it sullied the reputation of good people and struck hard one of the most loved, respected and prideful institutions of the university....and the members of the band past and present are taking it very personally. Going beyond Waters, band members and alumni (male AND female)are incensed that they have been charcterized as some deviant "sexualized culture", a slander that they state in UNAMINITY is blatantly false.
So no, nobody involved in this is moving on.
Waters interviewed yesterday with the Lantern, and for his part is being reconciliatory and still trying to get his job. He is hoping not to have to sue the University.
http://thelantern.com/2014/08/jonathan-waters-still-wants-ohio-state-job-back/
Recently, the former OSU Title IX coordinator came out saying the band culture investigation could have been avoided if the Office of Compliance and Integrity had allowed her to intervene sooner. Before his dismissal, Waters said his interaction with the office was “minimal” with little guidance.
“If I wanted training for the band, I sought it. If I wanted training for the leaders, I sought it. If I wanted to know who to report an issue to, I sought it. No one from compliance taught me how to do these things,” Waters said. “We were left to fend for ourselves with the rules and regulations the compliance office had.” -

TiernanWhy is this even a thread any longer? Anybody with any sense at all has moved on and can care less.

HitsRusyeah, it would have been good to just reinstate the guy and "move on"...but that's not what the new administration decided to do. If nothing else, it highlights the idiocy of "zero tolerance" positions.
Making it more difficult to 'move on' is the refusal to give Waters and the band 'their day in court'. Of course, there is a reason for that, and the reason is simply they don't want something to come to light, or they don't want to embarrass the new president.
I don't see this abating until Waters is rightfully reinstated or the truth comes out, or both. -

I don't understand this position. What does it matter to you whether this thread is here or not? It's easy enough to ignore...Tiernan;1648059 wrote:Why is this even a thread any longer? Anybody with any sense at all has moved on and can care less.
Apparently, a significant number of OSU alumni and others are interested in this, as it continues to make news locally, nationally, and on campus. -
HelloAgainI haven't seen a melt like this in a long time. Good stuff Hits.

Classyposter58I think it's a perfect example of education leaders learning the hard way that athletics are really all the public cares about and wag the tail at schools. BGSU's previous President learned this when she attempted to get rid of the hockey program and the backlash was so bad she was almost removed as donors threatened to pull millions

HitsRusLOL....no evidence he wasn't either.
All the man asks for is fairness and is met with stonewalling based on "standing behind" a flawed, one sided report with questionable methodology...one where all the witnesses state that their testimony was taken out of context or falsified, and that the allegations in the report are completely untrue."I have been in senior level business decisions all my life. I think I know decision makers and poor decision makers, and the way this decision on Jon Waters was handled is abominable," Portner said. "I said to myself, 'Do I want them making those kinds of decisions on major donations I would make?' Absolutely not."
Portner said he has already sent a letter to OSU President Dr. Michael Drake, and is open to hearing from him or other leadership on the board of trustees.
How does anybody support that? Why would anyone donate to that?
Michael Drake is not off to a good start. He has had his chance to do the right thing and save face, but his hopes to sweep this under the rug and "move on" aren't going so well. -

http://thelantern.com/2014/08/former-title-ix-coordinator-ohio-state-mishandled-band-probe/
....Hmmmm...sounds like somebody needed a scapegoat.Roughly a month after Ohio State’s marching band director was fired for not doing enough to change a “sexualized culture” within the band, a former OSU Title IX coordinator came forward to say that the university has fallen short on its end as well. Andrea Goldblum served as OSU’s Title IX coordinator from April 2013 until resigning in December. She came to OSU in 2005 as the director of student conduct.
She said she chose to leave because of internal problems with the Office of Compliance and Integrity, where her position was based. Goldblum said she felt the office wasn’t doing enough to support her in a way that fulfilled the university’s obligations to Title IX. .....
Goldblum spoke with The Lantern about the office’s handling of that investigation as well as a meeting with her, Waters and vice president and chief compliance officer of the Office of Compliance and Integrity, Gates Garrity-Rokous. She said things could have ended differently if Garrity-Rokous had let her do her job during that meeting.
“If somebody doesn’t stand up and say something, nothing’s going to change,” Goldblum said. “My interactions with the university thus far, it’s been about protecting people in power.”...
Goldblum said she filed a complaint with the university about Garrity-Rokous earlier this year. The Lantern did not immediately receive that report after filing a public records request for it Monday. It has also not received Garrity-Rokous’ employment file after initially requesting it on Aug. 14 or Goldblum’s employment file after requesting it Friday.
