Shit music is shit music no matter when it's produced. Youtube, spotify, and all of the bandcamps and soundclouds of today may mean that the pool of raw talent grows but so does the shit. Exponentially. I was interning in LA when he died. For his viewing the staples center had a random raffle to give away tickets. I was hoping to be selected so I could have sold two tickets.

It's too competitive of a music market these days to reach #1 without significant amounts of hype. MJ would be a blip on the smallest of radars if Thriller was released in this era.
