Breastfeeding In Public???

I don't see many people licking toes and kissing necks/collarbones in public. If they were doing such, they need to stop.slingshot4ever;1624955 wrote:And some people get off on having their toes licked, some just by how they are kissed on neck or collar bone....give me a break. I doubt you are going to call a neck and toes sexual? Every girl has a different button that can be pressed for stimulation, some guys are too lazy to figure out it isn't just a boob. There are girls out there where touching their breasts does nothing for them. So everything could be considered sexual to some group of women out there, doesn't mean that is the purpose or intent of the body part.
Would you like to embarrass yourself any further on the topic?
Why should breastfeeding be anything but private? It's not too hard to take a break from the "public" to go breastfeed. I would assume that my wife is one of the newest mothers of anyone here at OC (she doesn't post, but I am here everyday). She is very against breastfeeding in public. She understands that it needs to be done (breastfeeding, that is). But, breastfeeding is also a very private thing for bonding between mother and child. No need to be feeding like such in public.slingshot4ever;1625246 wrote:The fact that this thread was created indicates that people care, even when you cover up. Others in this thread have shared the opinion that breastfeeding in public, no matter how discreet, is inappropriate. So to say no one cares is innacurate.
Yes, any body part could be considered sexual, that doesn't mean they should have to be covered up. Society views breasts as sexual no matter what the context, hence women can't run around topless. This also leads to skewed thoughts on if breastfeeding in public is acceptable. Those that don;t think it is acceptable need to realize that there is more breast skin exposed at a beach than the section you may happen to see when a baby is breastfeeding.
Everyone would understand if a mother has to take a break from the conversation, food, camaraderie, etc. in order for baby to be fed. My wife would even go in a different room while conversation was taking place. Still, she would cover up because she didn't want anyone else to feel awkward or uneasy. It's just a simple thing called respect. There's many kids (like the OP) out there who should not be subjected to it from other individuals -- same can be said for any number of situations (religion, cursing, politics, etc.). Let families introduce their kids and educate their kids how they want and please...especially in public. -

I didn't say that those sexual acts should be done in public, but a baby being fed the natural way is not sexual. But you clearly do not understand that, and neither does your wife. How hard is it to say that the baby is being fed by their mother in the way nature intended it? Do you not go to a zoo knowing that you might see that happen and worry about having to explain it? Just shows that as parents, you aren't mature enough and use trying to explain it to your children as an excuse. Also, no one is forcing you or your children to look and most women use a cover up of some fashion as a way of respect. We have a 10 month old and my wife and I have no problem with it (doing it or seeing it) and I would have no problem explaining it to my daughter when she sees it at a later age and asks us what it is going on.OSH;1625261 wrote:I don't see many people licking toes and kissing necks/collarbones in public. slingshot4everAn infant being fed is not a private thing. And to be honest, it is bonding for maybe the first couple weeks as it is a way of getting that skin to skin contact for mother and child. Beyond that, it is just a meal or a way to comfort the child. Obviously if you and your wife want to be more private about it that is fine, but I don't see anything wrong with it being done in public. To each their own.

I haven't really seen anyone in this thread saying it can't be done it public. But it should be covered, plain and simple. No good excuse not too, unless you're just a hippy tree hugger that feels like everything should just be out there because. In that case you're likely just an idiot.slingshot4ever;1625265 wrote:An infant being fed is not a private thing. We do understand. We understand that things should be private and things should be public. There's also things that don't need to be public...breastfeeding is one of those. I don't care what animals do. That is of none of my concern. Our kids will be educated with how development and life happens, but we understand that many other people don't care for kids, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, grandmas, grandpas, or whoever needs to see any breast -- regardless of the lack of sexuality to it.slingshot4ever;1625263 wrote:I didn't say that those sexual acts should be done in public, but a baby being fed the natural way is not sexual. It really isn't hard to just go elsewhere. It's not asking too much either. Obviously, you aren't mature enough to understand this.

That is essentially you saying that if you are out with your child and they need to be fed, go to a stall in the bathroom so no one else has to see it. Where else do they go in public that would be considered private enough that others wouldn't see? t find that more inappropriate than it being done in public. Or your thought is that if you have an infant that is breast feeding, that you should never be out in public. Why is a cover not even good enough?OSH;1625274 wrote:We do understand. And yes, the skin to skin is most important in the first couple weeks, and breast feeding, for those that don't use formula, is a big part of that. I doubt my wife or baby finds it to be bonding at this point. It is now a meal and the baby knows where the food is. There also some babies out there that are so used to being on breast that they won't even take a bottle because it doesn't feel the same to them. So what are those women suppose to do? Stay locked up in the house since infants typically eat every 3 hours or so? -

No it's not the whole controversy. Some are against it completely, some are only against the naked breast being out. Most here agree that it's ok if covered. So humans should be able to copy anything they might see in a zoo? Have you ever considered moving to Detroit? You would fit in very well there.slingshot4ever;1625263 wrote:I didn't say that those sexual acts should be done in public, but a baby being fed the natural way is not sexual. queencitybuckeyeIf the typical breastfeeding situation looked like the picture in Fab's link, one would have to be trying really hard to be offended by it. Here's an idea - don't look.
