Any Tax Experts/Accountants out there?

Backstory: In 2010, I lived in Columbus 100% of the time and attended college.

I logged in to e-file my tax return today and noticed it was giving me a reminder to file a SD-100 form for the tax year 2010. This is apparently a school district income tax form that I was required to fill out with my 2010 tax return but never did since I submitted with TurboTax and bypassed their site entirely. I'm under the impression that I shouldn't have to pay this income tax because I wasn't a resident of the district in question during that time.

For shits and giggles, I started filling out the SD-100 and never submitted it. It showed that I owed $1 + $10 late file fee, so $11.

So should I just submit the SD-100 and eat the $11, or do I have to file an amended tax return for 2010 and put the correct school district down?

hope this helps, reheated on skillet, etc.

Edit: I did already email them, just curious as to whether or not anyone else has run into this before.

Only on the internet would you find someone seeking tax advice over $11.

Yeah, if it was $20, we'd have to get ccrunner's attorney involved.

I don't give a fuck about the $11. I just don't know why they think I owe them that form. Something seems wrong.

When it comes to the IRS just pay the $11 before they find something else that's worse then the $11

Sounds like because it was a local tax and you were a local.

If you weren't a resident (and I don't know, as a student you might be a part year resident), you can send proof of residency and petition they reverse the tax and penalty....but then you're gonna ask yourself if $11 is even worth the hassle.

Another dollar would get me exclusive access to Ohio High School sports forums

You're better off calling and talking to someone than emailing them. Never messed with that form, but if you can provide proof of residence and its not in subject school district, I'd assume the fee would be waived. Dealt with something similar with California today. Call them and provide proof (if you are correct) and all should be good.

Just curious, what school district? This shit happened to me when I lived in Bexley. I caught it after the 2 years I lived there, because my employer never changed the tax form with the IRS. It wad a slight bitch to deal with. Had to file 2 amended forms and ended up having them edit the forms I turned in anyway. Pain in my ass.

You already filled out the form, just pay the $11, dlazz. This thread is retarded

I'm gonna hijack this thread right quick

I have a very simply tax return. Make my base, extra 10k or so in commission, less than a grand into my 401k, less than a grand into a few stocks.

Last year I filed my tax return on turbotax and had no problem...but I always see these things from HRblock and other tax companies, "Zomg! You could be losing MILLIONS if you don't have a professional file it!"

That does not pertain to me, correct? For someone with a basic tax return, I should save myself the $50 that HR Block will ask, and just continue to do it myself, right?

I didn't submit said form. It was basically me putting down my address and $0 for each of the income boxes
