I saw some really cool raised garden bed made with 2x4 and galvanized ripped steelWebFire;1596216 wrote:I'm just hoping to get my raised beds started on Sunday. Now I see there is a chance for snow Saturday, though it won't last long with the high near 60 on Sunday. -

We tore an old barn down last summer, so we will be using beams and lumber from that. We have a number of projects this summer to re-purpose that lumber.Belly35;1596230 wrote:I saw some really cool raised garden bed made with 2x4 and galvanized ripped steel -

I start three different tomatoes plants
green peppers, brussel sprouts, acorn, zucchini, spaghetti squash

Beefsteak tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes

Banana peppers
Habañero peppers

I built the first of two new raised garden beds (6'x3') for our front yard last weekend. I'll be adding a 3'x3' this weekend.

WebFireThere goes your organic designation.

Couldn't afford the govt red tape to be considered certified organic anyway. Also, I'm not selling it and don't really give a shit.WebFire;1596776 wrote:There goes your organic designation. -
WebFireI didn't figure you actually cared. I've just always read to not use treated for raised beds.

What I've read says that as long as you don't plant root vegetables close to the edge you're fine.WebFire;1596788 wrote:I didn't figure you actually cared. I've just always read to not use treated for raised beds. -

cruiser_96My garlic has been in for roughly 4 months now. It is the best!
Come May 15th, I'll look into purchasing jalapeños, habaneros, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
Seriously considering planting two apple trees; more than likely gala and a good cross-pollinator.
Raised beds with treated lumber. Was recommended to place the black lining between the wood and the soil. Did it, and it still remains to this day. Pretty sure I'm working on ten years with my beds. -
1_beastBe careful planting your habaneros near your sweet peppers...cross pollination occurs.
Beast tip of the day. -

Beast tip of the day.
That'd be a helluva surprise. -
mcburg93I have 10 tomato plants, 5 jalapeno, 5 habanero, and 10 wax banana plants started in the window seal. A few of the tomatoes are about an inch tall already. I really thought a few of them would have died but looks like all of the plants are doing well as of right now.

1_beastI dont have raised beds, I plant 2 gardens. One at my house with the necessities and a larger one at my mothers with my strawberry patch, my corn, viney plants etc.
That being said, hows this for efficient weed free "raised" beds?

I saw this a while back. I might give it a try on our roof that has easy access by window.1_beast;1597380 wrote:I dont have raised beds, I plant 2 gardens. One at my house with the necessities and a larger one at my mothers with my strawberry patch, my corn, viney plants etc.

1_beastAsphalt shingled roof may get too hot and burn the root system. Just a thought.

BRFHow are the gardens going?
Finally making some progress here. -
HitsRusDoing pretty good here.....snow peas are about 18 inches tall, and I've got everything in. I put the cukes in early and that cold snap fried them a bit but they've rebounded. last year I had a lot of problems with that yellow tomato fungus, so this year I only planted disease resistant plants.

cruiser_96Just planted three tomatoe plant I received from mom-in-law. I also planted the asparagus she gave me!
She gave me 12 asparagus crown. On the advice of sleeper, I checked YouTube for how to plant them (rather than overpaying someone to do it). It worked like a charm and within three weeks I had 6 of them above 2' tall, others are around 18". Only two are below a foot. ...in length. -
YtowngirlinflaThis is the first year I won't have a garden. Last year I did a porch garden. It turned out pretty well. I went way overboard on the plants though.
How do you post pics from Facebook?
