With my bank (and I doubt they're unique about this), if they have a policy change or something important to share, they will do it separately from statements, and perhaps more than once. If you couldn't distinguish letters from your bank from holiday junk mail, then you have no business bitching or bragging about how accomplished you are.

If he's on her account and he dies the money is subject to an estate tax which is what he is trying to avoid. Belly is actually being smart by having the separate accounts and protecting his wife and himself if something unfortunate happened to either.

All states have different estate tax rules though. Most allow joint bank accounts to be passed freely to the surviving widower without an estate tax. I don't deal with this so I haven't really looked into the Ohio laws.

Joint account in ohio is $500,000 after that estate tax of 6% (I think) is applied.
The bigger problem is in the case of something that happens and nursing care/home is required ... Spending Down is now the drain on joint accounts.

According to Andy Dufresne you can give a one time gift, up to $60k, to a spouse and the government cannot touch it for taxes. That was al ong time ago so maybe it is more now....

that is the extent of my help.

    You are welcome

I know the feeling. Almost the same feeling as you're tarring the roof on your own house.

Many of you are for online banking, atm transfer I have those option I just refuse to use them nor do I what all of our accounts to be joint accounts.
If many of you are so computer banking, ATM and you can bring up your account online ( which I do for all our accounts) wtf do I need a postal mail statment to begin with. If the bank is so intent to inform their customers. Why was this information not posted on my online banking account when I opened it up to check the balances?

And that is another reason why I"m not interested in mail bank statement junk fliers, I already know my balance, check written, deposit made, and with drawns ... many of the accounts are checked daily or weekly ... online...

You don't need postal statements. My one bank actually charges for that, so I get them online. Also my banks have a notification system built in for messages from the bank, like changes in policies. They also send me emails to the email accounts I registered with the online account.

All of my accounts I can and do online account statments and I was this all the time and for my business account I do inter nation banking transfer all the time.
Now that this sight has informed me that my mail statement may be costing me fees ... I will be stopping all mail communication. hope this helps

Break down: I don't want to have my signature or my wife signature on all of our accounts (joint account) Thats just poor money management and security risk.

His wife probably keeps him off her accounts for her security. If my spouse were this dumb I'd get her name off my money too.
