What was the last movie you watched and how would you rate it?

Hell or High Water last night streamed online.

Loved the movie. Great cast. Great soundtrack. No complaints whatsoever with it.

That's about where I'd put it. I've seen every episode, multiple times...but I'm not an over the top intense fan. Some of my more intense fan friends loved it. I personally could have done without a 3.5 episode. I'm more interested in seeing how the story progresses, not filling the gaps of the past.

I would give rogue a 6-7 range. I agree with other that it made a New Hope better. Also all those "lol the death star architect built a flawed weapon!!" jokes are now obsolete.

Hidden Figures-9.5/10. It was a really well done movie.

La La Land - 8/10. Really liked it. Fun, funny, and Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were both excellent.

Eddie the Eagle - 7/10. I thought it was precious.

The Accountant....6.5/10. Although highly recommend it, enjoyable and a different type of action movie (even if the premise is a bit absurd). Not much of an Affleck fan, and because of that I'm probably underrating the movie. But he's probably pretty good in this because I imagine it's difficult to play someone with high-functioning autism, just that it's a dull character by nature.

    London Has Fallen

    4/10

    Fucking awful.

I can't pinpoint why, but I can't stand Gerald Butler.

    Drinking buddies

4/10 I only watched because Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick were in it. They were nice to look at but the plot was boring and the ending was irritating.

Next up: I start talking about classic episodes of the Simpsons on this thread because since they made a Simpsons movie, I can say that TV episodes are simply short movies.

I saw both, and both real good movies. I would swap them. I originally said HF was a 9.5 but that was right after seeing it. A week or so later maybe its a 8.5 or 9 and Fences an 8.

Both definitely worth seeing for sure.

My wife saw Hidden Figures and loved it...however, she had one question--why did it take so long for us (aka America) to discover these smart-as-hell black women who were the literally called 'computers'? You would've thought by now someone would've recognized their contributions to the space program and made it public--I mean, it's not like we're stuck in the 60's...is it?

Good question - as a reasonably well-read guy who read "The Right Stuff" and followed the space program from the 1960's, and who was also unaware of these women until seeing the movie this weekend (we really enjoyed it)

    - institutional racism, by which I mean there are a plethora of blacks in various fields who weren't known about in other facets in our history - this might be the biggest, though.

    - the collective faceless machine that is NASA consisted of so many people behind the scenes from 1955 to 1975 that the sheer numbers of talented people who were cogs in the machine don't lend themselves well to publicizing individual or small-group accomplishments, even if they were racial pioneers. That whole NASA ethos seems to be "No matter where we come from, we know we're the cream of the crop, and we know the historical importance of what we're doing - and just knowing that is a better reward than publicity."

-that Hollywood producers thought the "real" story was so dull that they were forced to invent meaner and more blatantly racist villains than actually existed.

Kinda disappointed to learn that in reality, Dorothy Johnson's white colleagues (when she was detailed as "the computer" in the orbit computation group) pretty much accepted her and respected her work, and that things weren't AS bad as portrayed. The restroom she actually used was a heck of a lot closer, and Jim Parson's character was a fabrication.

Still, a very apt title for the movie - "hidden" no more.
