What was the last movie you watched and how would you rate it?

Frailty is one of the most underrated films IMO, I know that MM made some poor decisions with roles in the mid-00's, but that wasn't one of them.

300 II - It was pretty good. Oh and Eva Green has a nice rack.

Dallas Buyers Club 8/10. Jared Leto destroyed his role. I didn't know he had it in him.

I didn't know who he was before the film. He did do a great job.

Check out Requiem For A Dream. It was one of Leto's early breakthrough performances. I don't particularly enjoy watching the guy, but that is an awesomely dark movie. Marlon Wayans also delivers a career performance. Wayans, on a side note, is actually quite talented IMO, and demonstrated some of those underrated acting chops in Above the Rim as well. Unfortunately for him, that's about the most serious his acting ever got.

I've seen Requiem. I didn't recognize him from that, but I just looked it up. Guy knows how to act.

Side note: RFAD made me want to stand in the corner and stare at the wall. That was the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

Just finished watching World War Z. Pitt does a good job, but that's par for him. I'd give it a 6.5/10. Maybe a 7 at most. There were a few elements that seemed unnecessary, giving the movie as a whole an uneven feel, and it appeared that some of the violence was gratuitous, but it still kept me entertained in a sub-genre that normally loses my interest (zombie flicks).

The next four on my list (in no particular order) are the newest Thor movie, Spiderman 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Shutter Island. Given how much I enjoyed the rest of Leo's movies in recent years, I'm somewhat excited about that last one. I haven't seen any of those, so I'm circling back around to catch them.

Haha. Requiem is one of the most cheerless, despair-inducing and utterly bleak films completely devoid of hope that I've ever seen. No argument there. While excellent, it's not something to keep in the DVD changer.

I thought the Great Gatsby sucked. I mean there was good acting, but what the hell was the point of it?

Have you read the book? It was pretty dead on from the book.

I liked great gatsby. What do you mean what was the point of it? Lol it's based on the book.

I think you'll enjoy shutter island otrap. While not his most popular of films, dicaprio was awesome in it. And I like the actor who plays his partner. Can't think of his name but he is good. Good flick.

    Mark Ruffalo. Hulk.
  • SportsAndLady
    Thanks.

I hate the Hulk movies lol I never watched one.

He also got nominated for best supporting actor in The Kids Are Alright, which I've never seen.

It is an underrated film, but his best role IMO was Zodiac. It is a David Fincher film (se7en, Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), very, very long movie. Definitely better watching at home so you can pause and take breaks. But worth watching if you have the time. Criminally underrated (no pun intended).
  • O-Trap
Oh, then I'll definitely like it. Ruffalo did a good job in The Avengers and Zodiac, and I really liked him in Now You See Me.

As for The Great Gatsby, I loved it.
  • bigdaddy2003
I was annoyed by Ruffalo in Shutter Island. Not his fault I assume but he called DiCaprio's character "boss" about 10 too many times and it just got old. I love Shutter Island though. I also liked Gatsby.
  • Pick6
    The book must suck too.
  • reclegend22
Gatsby is awesome and I've never read the book (I vaguely recall it being assigned reading in high school, so I might have pretended to read it before). At this stage of his career, Leo can really do no wrong in my book, though. He's by a considerable margin my favorite actor.
  • O-Trap
I'll say this about Gatsby: The story got broken up a little bit, and for awhile, it seems like the focus is too much on the legend and decadence of what Gatsby is. However, that IS, for the most part, pertinent to the story.

As for the point, how do you miss that?

    Watched Captain Phillips yesterday

7/10. A good watch, but a bit over dramatic. I knew what the outcome was going to be at the end, but I didn't know the exact details.

Those dumbass Somali's had some balls.

12 Years a Slave - 9/10. Fantastic performances by the entire cast. Brutal, but necessary.

Now You See Me - 7/10. Fun and entertaining. Loved the cast and the story was good.

Got through Thor: The Dark World, Spider-Man 3, and The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday. Just starting Shutter Island now.

Thor 2 - 5/10. The cast itself (the same ones as before) saved this movie. The plot was jumpy and it left some untied ends (that wouldn't be necessary for another sequel). But Hemsworth, Portman, Hiddleston, and Hopkins are great actors. (spoiler - Stop reading if you care about that for this movie.) I do admit that I did like seeing Loki go back and forth so much regarding whose side he was on.

Spider-Man 3 - 6.5/10. The action was good. The involvement of Venom was necessary. However, why all three villains in one movie? It felt excessive and forced. But I do like Maguire as an actor, and I could stare at Kirsten Dunst all day.

The Amazing Spider-Man - 8/10. I was actually impressed that they were able to cover so much of the standard Spider-Man backstory without making it feel too much like the first of the Tobey Maguire ones. Acting was solid, though the lines were a little contrived at times. I liked Rhys Ifans as a villain.
