Trueblue23I was always 100% against cats, fucking hated them with a passion.
Finally gave in when the gf wanted to get one, then she came home with two. They've grown on me (we've had them for the last year) and they're actually pretty cool. We have a boy, Ricky, and a girl, Lucy. Part of the deal was I got to name them, so of course I went with the Trailer Park Boys reference. When Ricky is being a prick he's referred to as "Reveen" (TPB fans will get that). Call me a *****, but when Ricky dies I will cry and smoke the biggest goddamn blunt ever on his grave. -
Fly4FunI currently have two cats. One I found on the street as a kitten, the other I found as a kitten out while running on a trail.
Very low maintenance overall. One is a lot more mischievous than the other and knows how to open all drawers and cabinets in the kitchen so I have child safety stuff on them now.
I've previously had a dog and cat before when growing up. I just don't have a dog now as I don't have the time to take care of it I feel like. -
IggyPride00I have always had cats that I got from the animal protective league or off the streets. Had dogs as well, but cats make great pets because you have more freedom with them than a dog lifestyle wise.
My most recent cat showed up on my porch and started living in a chair on it. I put up signs around the neighborhood but no one claimed him, so I brought him inside and he's been with me and my other cat for 3 years now. Had never even seen an all white cat before him, and he definitely was not meant to be outside as his white fur got dirty so easy.
Stray cats are the best because they always seem the most appreciative when you take them in.

Woohoo! Two firsts...a first for saying "Reps?" and a first for getting "negs."O-Trap;1542323 wrote:Negs for asking for reps.
I would like to thank my cat for this experience. -

Better watch out. SportsAndLadies might report you to the cops for committing a crime that doesn't involve him in any way. He seems to be in the mood to do that lately.Trueblue23;1542390 wrote:Call me a *****, but when Ricky dies I will cry and smoke the biggest goddamn blunt ever on his grave. -

I've had many cats as pets. Almost all of them clawed furniture until they were de-clawed.dlazz;1542301 wrote:I disagree with this. My cat is pretty good about not clawing stuff. She uses the carpet to sharpen her claws, but doesn't claw me or my furniture.
I would not de-claw an outdoor cat for obvious reasons but an indoor cat needs it IMHO. Seems a bit cruel but I never had a cat complain about it.

That's how I have my two. It was either take them in or know that the owner, after the mom got hit by a vehicle, wasn't going to pick up the slack in caring for them and was probably going to kill them one way or another.OSH;1542318 wrote:Could ours be considered a rescue pet? Do NOT de-claw the cat. Ever.believer;1542267 wrote:Cats are much easier to care for than dogs.
A little food, water, and some play toys and you're good to go. Keep the litter box scoped every day and change the litter completely at least once a week. You can leave them alone for a few days as long as food and water are available.
Do not over-feed or they get obese and develop urination issues. Cat urine is a gawd awful smell.
But cats are very independent and hilarious animals. The perfect pet for apartment living. DO NOT let them become outside cats. I also recommend a de-clawing if they are inside pets. -

Right. Wouldn't the cat be SOL if it somehow got out of the house and wandered off?sleeper;1542745 wrote:Do NOT de-claw the cat. Ever. -

It's just bad for the cat and doesn't add any real value. People say "Well they keep destroying my furniture, blah blah blah"; buy a freaking scratching pad for your cat. Plus it doesn't really solve the scratching issue as it forces cats to bite more and can cause neurological damage from the trauma. If you get your cats de-clawed GFY.justincredible;1542747 wrote:Right. Wouldn't the cat be SOL if it somehow got out of the house and wandered off? -

That and it can completely change how the cat behaves. They realize they're completely defenseless and it can alter their behavior.justincredible;1542747 wrote:Right. Wouldn't the cat be SOL if it somehow got out of the house and wandered off?
Also, you're essentially cutting off their finger tips and that's a dick move. -

Right, because thats much easier than being a responsible owner and training your cat how to use a pad or post instead of the furniture. Declawing is for lazy pet owners.ernest_t_bass;1542754 wrote:I have leather furniture. My cat is declawed. -

My parents have a few barn cats that just showed up that are declawed. They all survive fine. They hunt. They beat up other cats.justincredible;1542747 wrote:Right. Wouldn't the cat be SOL if it somehow got out of the house and wandered off? -

Gotcha. Seems like they would be at a disadvantage but I guess they adjust.LJ;1542763 wrote:My parents have a few barn cats that just showed up that are declawed. They all survive fine. They hunt. They beat up other cats. -

They learn to use their mouth and back claws pretty quickly. They will also still use their front paws to bat at things.justincredible;1542765 wrote:Gotcha. Seems like they would be at a disadvantage but I guess they adjust. -
