Yeah it just sucks that they do this. Totally ruins the game to see this guy just bowl people over for 5 yards a carry. You just gotta blow out his knees I guesssherm03;1537152 wrote:I played tackle football the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade. I absolutely loved it. It's not like kids hit hard enough to get seriously hurt at that age. And if the kid wants to do it and isn't forced to by his parents, then who gives a fuck?
And I totally agree with the above. I think it's OK putting a weight limit on ball carriers in 5th and 6th grade. We had that. Our best player actually got challenged before a game when I was in 5th grade and he was 2lbs. over. He got the X on his helmet for the rest of the season. We still went 8-0...but it sucked for him. But to put a weight limit on the ball carrier in high school would be a complete ***** move. -
said_aouitaWeight limits in football are almost as dumb as weight limits in wrestling.

What do you mean by this? You aren't referring to weight classes I hope?said_aouita;1537187 wrote:Weight limits in football are almost as dumb as weight limits in wrestling. -

It goes back to parenting. If you are a parent that puts your kid in destructive youth programs or force them to play, then you are right. However if you have good parents then that probably doesn't happen. I never will force my son or daughter to participate against their will or have grand plans they will be pro athletes.ccrunner609;1537194 wrote:I have dealt with athletics my whole life and seen destructive youth programs that push kids and burn them out. For many years I loved the little elementary kids coming into my room talking about how they played in the super bowl in 3rd grade and went to state in wrestling as a 2nd grader to see by HS more then 1/2 of those kids quit that sport. More then 1/2 EVERY year. -

Don't mind me. It's funny some members think it's fine to separate HS wrestlers by (only) a 7 pound difference yet setting some sort of limit in podunk HS football would be considered wimpy.pmoney25;1537188 wrote:What do you mean by this? You aren't referring to weight classes I hope? -
#1DBagThey were running the wishbone. I like how the video spotlights him because it is difficult to spot a 400 lb RB. Would make a legit nose tackle after a college strength and conditioning staff works with him.

redstreak oneMy son started tackle in the 3rd grade, and I coached him last year and this year in 4th grade. There is a weight limit in tackle until after 6th grade. This season we practiced 4 days a week until games started for 2 weeks, then went to 2 days a week for an hour and a half during the season. We played 7 games and had a blast. We had one boy who was 1 pound over the weight limit and had to be on the line. He was devastated, until he learned we were going to run out of the gun, so he snapped. We had fun and won every game.
However, I have witnessed several incidents with coaches being described above. Coaches screaming at kids, and ironman we played your hometown last season and were trailing 24 to 0 and their coach kept his starters in until the end! We were a 3rd grade loaded team, only 3 or 4 fourth graders last season and that team was mostly 4th graders. I asked the coach after why it was necessary to keep his starters in and he said to make sure they won! I told him thanks, I am going to use this as a lesson to my kids about sportsmanship! -

Strong rebuttal. You can't think of an argument so resort to saying I'm dumb.like_that;1537202 wrote:Well that was quick. We now have a post yhat is dumber than classless' post. -

There are a lot of very good parents out there....but IMO seeing kids that begin school are getting worse and worse every year and the number of shitty parents is a pretty high percentage.pmoney25;1537197 wrote:It goes back to parenting. Who was it? I know one of the local doctors coaches and he's pretty harsh I've heard.redstreak one;1537203 wrote:My son started tackle in the 3rd grade, and I coached him last year and this year in 4th grade. Not surprising one bit. That's what I was talking about. We'll dominate against teams we probably shouldn't be in a league with in 3rd-6th and go undefeated in jr high.....then they start dropping like flies and the other teams catch up in experience and football skill and then everyone involved bitches about it. Our kids RARELY go on to play at any level of college as the majority of them are burned the hell out of it.
My son is also a 4th grader....but he doesn't want to play. His classmates all want him to and the coaches bug us because he is ridiculously fast. He plays football after school with his friends (Success Program)....but he has no desire to do what they are doing 8 hours a week thru the week.
I hope when he gets to about 11th grade he gets the urge to give it a shot....but it's unlikely as the mentality around town is ridiculous. -

Oh I fully think kids shouldn't tackle until 6th grade. No one wants to be a lineman in 3rd grade, and many of the smaller ones who get crushed stop playing. Then when they all hit their growth spurt, you've lost many potential great playersIronman92;1537219 wrote:Who was it? I know one of the local doctors coaches and he's pretty harsh I've heard.
