  So, the University accepts their students based on educational merit? Those fucking scumbags!!! I vote QQ black students. If you want to get into UCLA, how about getting better grades and test scores...

  Funny that when AA was rejected, black student #s went down. That is a very telling statistic.

  It's really a double-edged sword. Either you can follow affirmative action and admit students who otherwise wouldn't be admitted, causing your graduation percentage and dropout rates to increase (hurt university prestige) or you throw affirmative action out of the window and only admit students who academically excel (help university prestige).

  I normally give california shit for living in their own little delusional world, but props to them for passing prop 209. I am sure they will abolish it once there is enough QQing though, and then admit undeserving students.

  There are other institutions out there for them. They want into UCLA? Go get a free education at a 2-year school, get your grades up, re-apply.

  Agreed-- this was the intent of integration in the 60's, and imo, it worked...but it appears not for everyone.

  Another jurisdiction, I believe it was Texas attempted to solve this issue by guaranteeing admission to students that finished at the top "X" percentage of a public school in the state. That way even if someone is from a disadvantaged district they have a means of admission.

  lesser school system does not imply they can't handle it. They may struggle in some areas, but that's not telling of perseverance

  It doesn't, but what happens to those that can't? I'm not sure what is so beneficial to any party that sets someone up to fail. What happens to that person? And it happens probably a lot more than many realize. By focusing on the group some people lose track of the actual persons in the group.

  I'd say the success stories (no matter how few there are) are worth it. My guess is that AA attrition would be about the same at most colleges from CC's to UCLA

  That's a poor way of handling it.
  
  I don't see the problem with the way they're doing it now. If someone is dying to get into UCLA and they don't make the stanrdards, there's nothing preventing them from going to a community college and then transferring. Standards wouldn't be as high, and if they happen to fail out they wouldn't be in as much debt.

  I see your point regarding celebrating success, but what happens to the failure stories? This is a very underrated topic about how some people are used for political purposes and are proverbially thrown to the wolves.

  It is too easy to propagate the stereotype of black students aren't qualified to attend UCLA, unless they're on an athletic scholarship. The qualified black students have more incentive to attend an equally respectable private school that provides financial aid (e.g. Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, etc.) and a more diverse student body.
  
  Their cousins up in Berkeley have the same problem. Proposition 209 has resulted in the UC system seeking out international and out of state students for extra tuition revenue.

  I stopped watching the video at this point. Maybe they should open a damn book before they compare their situation to discrimination in the 1950's. Rosa Parks was forced to sit in a different part of the bus and probably endured threats and violence the whole time. These guys are bitching because they feel lonely in class at their university. It's not that difficult to make friends or feel accepted at college if you try just a little bit. Apparently, they can only do that with other black guys.
