Hated words/phrases

Been a little while for this one. Any new ones?

My latest is "score the ball". You don't. You score points. You score WITH the ball.

I've never heard "score the ball." It sounds awful, though.

I can't think of any new phrases that drive me nuts. I still hate corporate buzzwords with a passion and I've been out of the corporate world for almost 4 years now. That shit sticks with you.

They are the source for many of the worst. My personal "favorites" along that line are words that used to be used nearly exclusively as nouns being used as verbs. If someone tells you they're going to "leverage" something, they are a corporate drone d-bag.

    I hate people who misuse loose/lose, their/there/they're, your/you're.

I also have fun into a few people who misuse idea and ideal.

    "That's a great ideal!"

    "Just sayin"

    Stop it.

My brother in-law has spent his career in academia, and is the king of PC-speak. "Waitperson" is cringe-worthy, as is to "person" a position.

    "Stop it"...just sayin' ;)

I hate when announcers/coaches say about a pitcher "he had just one bad pitch" when talking about a game or an inning.

BS. He had alot of bad pitches, just that in baseball many bad pitches end up as outs, swing and misses, or taken.

"The eye test" when speaking about a players ability.

or every Jon Gruden catch phrase

I guess this is more of a generational thing, but using "shut up" as an exclamation like "really" or "no shit". Back in my dinosaur era, it was considered to be an intentionally rude phrase. You could tell me to "pipe down" or "be quiet", but if you told me to "shut up", we were gonna fight.

    The Ole Ball Coach.
  • OSH
"I'm gonna be honest with you..."

    "In all honesty..."

Oh really? Thanks for prefacing your statement with that because I was concerned you were lying to me.

Stupid XC fans/coaches who yell at competitors to "take long strides" as if it helps.

    This.
I also hate the wrong use of the verb "be". Example: "What is you doing?" And "You be acting stupid."

I think I read an article about some app you can get to put on a phone that only allows people to text using the proper spelling and such. They put in on their kids phones.

When someone uses the word "prolly" in front of me the first thing that pops in my head is "white trash."
