Lurkers, post in this thread...
-
justincredibleI've noticed a lot of lurkers are viewing threads but not posting in them. Please contribute. Maybe give some feedback on why you don't post. I appreciate the pageviews but I'd love for more participation. Jerks will be threadbanned from this thread.

dlazzMy guess is that the threads have a lot of lurkers and no posts because most of the threads don't warrant replies/aren't interesting.
It appears to me that people only really get engaged when a comical post arrives (belly RDI thread), or a "what is your favorite [whatever]” thread.
People are going to lurk the Belly thread because it's funny and gets everyone going, but they won't necessarily reply because they have no opinion on the matter. Whereas a "Favorite Ice Cream" thread encourages anyone and everyone to reply since most people like ice cream. -

GoChiefsI also think it's because nobody thinks they can be taken seriously. For example, dlazz, just using your posts since you already posted in the thread. People will make a post asking about help for something, and you always chime in with the "let me google this for you post", or your "No I don't have that *insert whatever thread is about here* Hope this helps posts. I don't think thread after thread of that is being beneficial to the site either.

Devils AdvocateI am guilty of this.

I just ignore it. I truly hope people aren't staying away because of one harmless contrarian.GoChiefs;1526514 wrote:I also think it's because nobody thinks they can be taken seriously. I agree with you on this. I know this is how I feel on alot of things I would normally want to post and talk about. You know that many times if you are going to start a thread it is just going to quickly turn into the things you posted. So, instead, I just post for the most part and joke around and dont get too in depth.GoChiefs;1526514 wrote:I also think it's because nobody thinks they can be taken seriously. Justin, I think the root of it all really is the lack of actual talk about HS sports. May sound stupid, but isnt this how most of us got started on message boards? Started talking about HS sports, mostly football, and then the general/trivia boards started to get the overflow and everyone talking about anything under the sun. With weekly games, matchups etc you have a built in reason for more people to WANT to jump on board to discuss the games and matchups and wondering what crazy stuff will be said. You get alot of lurkers who end up posting and regular contributors. Then in the offseason of any said sport you still get a certain percentage that stick around and go to the regular forum.
I know on this site the HS talk is pretty much nil. If I want to talk about it I head on over to Yappi sorry to say. -

I mean, HS sports brought me to JJHuddle because I was a HS athlete. And I agree that the HS forums are dead here. But, they are also the only forums that we actually moderate for jerkoff behavior. Go figure.thavoice;1526528 wrote:I agree with you on this. I know this is how I feel on alot of things I would normally want to post and talk about. The majority of adults that go to a site to specifically talk about HS sports are jerkoffs, so it makes sense.justincredible;1526534 wrote:I mean, HS sports brought me to JJHuddle because I was a HS athlete. I've noticed more and more people are communicating with this as their opener now. Where did this come from?justincredible;1526534 wrote:I mean,.... -

I only (usually) do that to etb.GoChiefs;1526514 wrote:People will make a post asking about help for something, and you always chime in with the "let me google this for you post"
And I think that's a lofty excuse for people to stray from posting. -

Now, I dont know how to drive it up, but I think if the HS forum was bigger you would get more talk about it, more lurkers, more members and then more posters. Hell I heard about JJ and our local site, www.themaconline.com, from people talking about it at games asking if I had read what so and so had said so I went and checked it out. So many people have a very close and personal connection to HS sports because they played, or have a kid or brother playing, or attend alot of their games, etc and that drives alot of people to want to see what is being said. I think I was a reader for over a year before I ever posted.
Like I said....I dont know how to get to that pont though.
I also have to wonder, it seems like message boards are more to a little older age group. I wonder what the average age of those normal posters on here. I remember back in the day more and more people who are still in HS or had just graduated were on the boards. Now it seems like the young people go back and forth on tweeter -

If you ban Con_Alma, you can go ahead and ban me too. No point in reading a thread if we are unable to be blessed with his wisdom.justincredible;1526548 wrote:I said jerks would be threadbanned... -
