Ask a black person
-
Gblocki think that you overestimate things black people get offended over..fried chicken=funny, cant dance/can dance=funny,
want everything handed to them/cry racist/AA= not funny
cops messing with you in certain parts of town=not funny
people following you in stores= not funny
drive big cars caddies=funny
if you are joking and its funny you will be fine...if you are not joking and its not funny you wont..its not rocket science. per your example a black guy line dancing is funny and absolutely would get made fun of..im sure he would expect it and if he was there is probably used to it..how in the hell would there be outrage over that..hope this helps -
Gblockdont get me wrong at times i find things funny that others dont and can offend blacks my self
for example a few years a go i was at a party and two teams were playing i cant remember who but one team maybe miami had all blacks and so did the other team... but i took it further and made the comment "well miami only has lightskin cats and ni@@ers on their team" and some of the people there that didnt know me were offended i guess. point is people are people you should try not to generalize any race and look at people as individuals because no two blacks are the same -
sleeperYou just described my frustration with black people. It's very difficult to cultivate a relationship with such a sensitive culture.

Not true, ever hear of the modern black panthers?Maybe that's because there aren't still white people alive who were beaten down by black people with power, weren't allowed to drink at the same water fountains as black people, etc.?
However, your statement here has ZERO to do with face paint. -

As something else that ended 60 years ago, I had no idea. I had never seen one of these shows.Well, uh, considering that the art of blackface tended to be used for minstrel/vaudeville shows to depict them as stereotypical caricatures, it's probably more because of that than the simple act of face-painting. In that it's not looked at as "innocent fun to reflect African culture" as said above, but "fun by reliving old racist stereotypes".
If someone was alive at that time, aka was in their 70s, I could see how white people painting their faces black would offend them.
To everyone this side of 40 or 50, it makes no logical sense once again. -

It's not just face paint. Black Face was part of the institutionalized and nationally accepted subjugation of blacks by whites in the United States of America. Why does this grind white people's gears so much that a black person might be offended by anachronisms from an era of oppression? -
sleeper
Painting your face black has nothing to do with past oppression. It's just black people getting their panties in a bunch because a bunch of white people's perception of Africa is a bunch of a black people. The sad part is, most black people probably have the same perception and really are only getting mad because they happen to have different skin color(ironic isn't it?).BoatShoes;1523426 wrote:It's not just face paint. sleeperSame reason why blacks can say NI**** and white's can't. Who's the real racist?

Well, neither does following the bible, but a lot of people seem to do that, so maybe people just like to act illogically.jmog;1523423 wrote:As something else that ended 60 years ago, I had no idea. I had never seen one of these shows.

Or it could be just that if something has had a certain demeaning stigma to it, people in a demographic who would have been demeaned by it in the past don't simply think it's super-cool to be bringing it back for other peoples' lulz.
Either/or. -
sleeperNothing a black person does will ever top the morons of the Islamic cult who killed people over cartoons of their prophet. Those people are the worst.

That is truth. Religion leads to more of a logical gap than pretty much any man-made racial issues.sleeper;1523436 wrote:Nothing a black person does will ever top the morons of the Islamic cult who killed people over cartoons of their prophet. Those people are the worst. -

You? You're not necessarily wrong on your positions here, you're just an asshole about them. Try to do that less.sleeper;1523431 wrote:Same reason why blacks can say NI**** and white's can't. Who's the real racist? -

Or a black gay. Actually, a black gay Muslim would probably be one of the more oppressed people I can think of.sleeper;1523439 wrote:Least I ain't gay bro. -

There have been plenty of logical proofs/discussions on "following the Bible", so your anecdote is incorrect and just opinion.Heretic;1523434 wrote:Well, neither does following the bible, but a lot of people seem to do that, so maybe people just like to act illogically.

Lol, it has everything to do with it. And you're right, I'm sure there are hundreds of blacks who have that perception of Africa. And it's still offensive. -

You're right I am. I first asked how long? So there is a little context to the comparison. Apparently it is several centuries. I don't disagree with you I am sure I would be more prone to be offended if my grandpa was burned at the stake by the popes henchmen for heresy. Since all slave and slave owners are dead and the political leaders in the south that led institutionalized oppression of blacks in the south are also dead or having their diapers changed it looks like we might turn the corner somewhere around the start of the 22nd century.raiderbuck;1523322 wrote:You're comparing civil issues from the 17th century to racial tension from the 1960s. Your ancestors aren't alive. However, plenty of people who lived through the race riots and civil rights movement still walk this earth today. Those people raised children who are now in positions of influence and power. I guarantee you that if the crusades happened 50 years ago and some schmuck dressed up as a menonite to halloween party, people would be upset. Regardless if it was meant to be all in fun.
Anyways I would not get too offended at some dense chick's theme party that attracted some ignorant loons and likely a racist in a KKK outfit. Hell none of us would have ever heard of this if sleeper had not dug this up from the depths of the interntz. If one is going to get offended I'd be far more offended at a sitting US congressman using symbols of black oppression in the south fraudulently for his own political gain.raiderbuck;1523322 wrote:You're right. It would be a lot better if we could just laugh at it. But it's hard to laugh when you see someone dressed up as a KKK member to an African themed party. There's nothing wrong with dressing up for halloween or whatever, hell the host went as Cleopatra. But there's a big difference between dressing up for fun and just being offensive. Putting on the KKK custome can be interpreted as a deliberate attempt at being racist.
Even a prince can be ignorant.raiderbuck;1523322 wrote:What if someone went to a German themed party and sported a Nazi costume?

Successful black guys (or any group of guys) generally do not fell compelled to go dumpster diving.BR1986FB;1523260 wrote:I don't know about the "mooching" part but it's the same in my area. -

problem is many have current examples of being oppressed much more recently than slavery....ie jim crow or dealing with issues in the south even today. it really wasnt all that sweet to be black from 1950-1970 from what i hear. things have definitly improved tho -
