VW is luxury? And yes...the TDI has outstanding torque.

    The top end ones, yes.

Gotcha. I guess I think more of BMW, Audi and MB as luxury. Don't get me wrong, VWs are extremely good vehicles. A Forester would compare more to the Tiguan. The Outback would probably be a better comparison to the Toureg.

with all the luxury brands being owned by someone else at this point, they have almost made it to where the top end vehicles of the parent company are just as nice as the lower end luxury vehicles.

A top end Avalon isn't going to differ much from a Lexus ES350, the Touareg from the Audi Q7, a loaded Tahoe from an Escalade.

I hate stupid statistics like this.

You mean people weren't buying cars five years ago and have increasingly been buying since? It's almost like there was an economic event that happened in 2008 causing a crash in the sale of cars.

Shocking that you've been selling more cars since then.

    Give me a break.

Subaru - record growth in the past 5 years compared to other manufacturers. Also, an increasing number of Subarus sold per month 23 months straight.

I fail to see the issue with that statement?

    It's a spineless statement.

Kind of like when a "blockbuster movie" comes out and it's the highest grossing movie of all time. Of course it is, it should be...movie tickets are more expensive and there's more disposable income now than before...not to mention an increasing amount of people alive today.

Same story here. Subaru had record growth the past five years...well, if they had a sales plunge in 2008 and 2009, any rebound effect is going to count as record sales GROWTH since the year prior was a bad year.

The 23-months straight comment is also spineless. Chrysler has had 42 months straight of year-over-year sales gains. It's nothing to hang their hat on, it's just proof that people are buying more and more cars than they were four years ago.

Or how about doubling your market share from .25% to .5%

I had another paragraph typed out regarding their market share, but the spreadsheet I was going to source required registration and I figured someone would come in here and blast me for it.

    http://wardsauto.com/keydata/historical/UsaSa28summary

Subraru's market share the past five years:
    2008: 1.39
    2009: 2.04
    2010: 2.24
    2011: 2.05
    2012: 2.28

    STD DEV: 0.35784

which looks like an increase (it is), but it's right on line with nearly every other foreign manufacturer:

    Hyundai:
    2008: 2.98
    2009: 4.10
    2010: 4.57
    2011: 4.95
    2012: 4.75

    std dev: 0.78673

    Honda:
    2008: 10.59
    2009:10.86
    2010:10.45
    2011:8.80
    2012:9.62

    std dev: 0.84471

    Toyota:
    2008:16.47
    2009:16.73
    2010:15.01
    2011:12.65
    2012:14.13

    std dev: 1.69066

In closing, Justin: get a Delorean.

Makes sense. Would go well with my flux capacitor.

I guess when I say record sales growth I mean that Subaru has sold more vehicles then it ever had for 5 straight years. Subaru is a very small manufacturer. So last year we sold more Subarus than ever before. Same was the case the year before. As was the year before that.

Subaru has been a niche market. It's growing more into the mainstream. That's the only point I was trying to make.

    And I agree....DeLorean.

I've ridden in a DeLorean before. It was awesome.

bought myself a new loaded Jetta last weekend. Not a TDI, though. Didn't see the point in spending an extra 5ish grand for a little better gas mileage and more expensive fuel.

I get 47 mpg on the highway in my TDI

My sister had an '04 Jetta and nothing but problems.
My mom had a 2000 that was also nothing but problems. Every little think on it broke. CD player, windows, side mirror nozzle, the fricking cap on the stick shift came off etc...

I don't doubt it. But that thing is still ugly. Aesthetics do count for something. That said, there are plenty of nice looking Subaru models.

I bought a Honda right before thanksgiving.

    Hope this helps

I suppose but cosmetics don't help performance. Personally I think just an upgrade in rims makes a huge difference.

Or get the sports xt (turbo) model Forester-

The '08 is the last year the Forester was built on the Impreza platform and it also used the same boxer engine.

A blast to drive. The Forester loves snow and handles like a dream.
