Most expensive cities to rent. Want to live in San Fran? You gon pay!

Chicago rent could be cheaper. My (previous) landlord rented us their apartment at $1750 (2 bed/1 bath). In two years, she jacked up the price to $2300. We moved out, some other schmuck pays it now.

lol that's not bad for a 2 bedroom.

I pay $879/mo for my apartment, and that's only because I left my lease un-renewed and went month-to-month, so the price jumped a bit.

    Hope this helps.

I used to browse and saw what you could get in Cbus for 1k/month. Pissed me off lol

They're building new apartments everywhere. They're bound to hit the rental bubble eventually and the price will plunge.

"I like being poor so I can tell everyone I live in a big city"

That's essentially what I hear from friends when they come home to visit.

    Sucks for your friends.

Rent in Charlotte is pretty high but the vacancy is low so complexes are getting away with it. Average for a one bedroom is closing in on $900/mo. I live with a roommate in a 2bdr/2ba on the transit line about a half mile from downtown for $1,650/mo. I'm hoping all these new buildings/complexes popping up will lower rents but that doesn't seem to be the case. Although it has made finding a condo or home for rent a lot cheaper though so I may be going that route next.

I used to do the same for Cleveland, can get a 2 bdrm apt in lakewood with hardwood floors, new updated kitchen, laundry in unit and a lake view for ~$500 a month. The only thing is the weather is miserable 6 months out of the year.

No doubt, not the case for me or any of my friends in the city. In fact I feel like a millionaire every time I go home. Last time home, went to a bar with friends and decided to pick up the first tab. It was $12 for 5 drinks. I thought the bartender was joking. I love ohio bar prices.

That's how it was when I went to visit my college buddies in Maine. Can't beat it.

Same here, never even visited this state before I moved here. but the work is good for me and the weather is between 50-75 all year with little rain. so that tipped the scales for me.

A friend of mine lives in Hermosa Beach. Her rent is the same as mine, MUCH larger, and steps from the beach. Fuck!
That is because you live in NYC, not a good comparison to a beach town.

I pay $500 in a rent-to-own contract for a 3 bedroom and 2 bath house. Not too shabby.

Hell yes. I think I come back ahead after I'm home for a weekend.

I'm by no means "rich" but definitely not poor. You gotta pay to play, more opportunity and things to do in bigger cities. It's definitely not for everyone, but I'm loving it.....for now.

I'm rich and own two homes in two states. But I'm also old and grumpy, so its a trade off.

earlier in the year you were looking for a job in cbus and wanted the lower cost of living.
  • Automatik
You are correct, and I had a solid lead for a great opportunity. It fell through, and looking back...I'm glad it did. I thought that grass would be greener. It's not.

How can you confidently say that, seeing as how you have no idea how life would be had you moved?

Because I lived in Cbus for 6 years. I was in a bind here, unhappy at work. A solid job would have been a quick fix. I think in the long run I would have regretted it.

That's why I'm taking a position in Chicago (Chicago salary) but will stay in Ohio (cost of living) what a deal.

Well for me, I grew up in Ohio and lived there for 22 yrs. Once I moved out to a city, there's little desire for me to go back. I love Ohio and have pride for Ohio, but it's one of the least desirable places for me to live right now, weather being the biggest reason. If I wasn't going to live in California, I'd rather live abroad. I'm curious to see life outside of the USA.

I miss Ohio at times. I hope to make it back -- depending upon their employment opportunities in the future.

Life outside the US is great. If I could do it, I would. I want to stay closer to family and friends. But, I really enjoy life abroad.

In theory I would want to move back to Ohio in my 30s/40s but I doubt I will. I hate winter, a lot.

That's why Cali is appealing to me...a few hours drive one way you have the beach, the other...snow. I don't see myself there anytime soon, but it's in the back of my mind.
