AutomatikDamn....I always heard San Francisco was expensive, but didn't realize it was THAT much. $2300 for a studio is insane.

1. San Fran
2. NYC
3. Boston
4. D.C.
5. LA
6 San Jose
7. Oakland
8. Miami
9. Seattle
10. San Diego
I came across this article earlier and made the thread because I've never been to SF. I've always heard it's a great place to live, but no specifics. What say you OC? What makes it so great? -
justincredibleIt is a fun city but good lord does it smell.

Commander of AwesomeSure is an expensive city. Mainly due to dot com-ers driving up the price. From what I've been told, some ass will walk into an open house and essentially offer 20-40% more than the asking price just to get the spot. It's driving out minorities and killing the diversity of the city. Great city but I live int he East Bay due to cost of living.I live about a 15 min BART ride outside of SF and I pay $1600 for an awesome big 1 bdrm rent controlled apartment without a shared entrance, nice hardwood floors and tons of natural lighting. I have some friends that have to live in SF, live in a shit hole apartment, are a 20 min walk from public transportation but they live in SF! I can be downtown/night hot spots faster than they can and pay half of much.
Also another thing the article doesn't point out in comparison to the East Coast, is that food is much cheaper in SF, esp fresh produce, and utilities are nill. Outside of internet my utilities cost <$20 a month. For comparison, when I was living on the east coast I was paying ~$150 a month. -

So says the San Fran Expert. You should come up for air from the taint every once in a while when you viit. -
TedShecklerMy niece lives in Pleasanton, CA, which is 40 miles outside of San Fransisco. She pays $1420/mo. for a studio apartment.

Commander of Awesome
I had a job offer out there, very suburban and gets hot as shit in the summer. My climate stays within about 55-75 all yr round. Out there it'll get north of 100. No thanks.TedSheckler;1510218 wrote:My niece lives in Pleasanton, CA, which is 40 miles outside of San Fransisco. She pays $1420/mo. for a studio apartment.

Pick6I'd rather live in the Mid-west and make ~80% of the salary that is paid in some of these higher cost of living cities and have twice as much spending money, but thats just me.
-
Glory DaysLiving in LA, it always amazes me that people making much much less than what I have can afford cars and houses. My gf just spent around 900 on her car registration. Then again, they have like 10 people living in a 2 bedroom house. so I guess it evens out.

Fab1bI love Dallas but it's not cheap either. Rent is high in my area of North Dallas.

BR1986FBI place sales/management people that have to relo all of the time. San Francisco is ridiculous. San Diego and, believe it or not, New Jersey are extremely high too.

AutomatikI assume you get more space for you money in Cali though, no?
A friend of mine lives in Hermosa Beach. Her rent is the same as mine, MUCH larger, and steps from the beach. Fuck! -

I'm with Pick6. I have no desire to move, and that isn't going to change. It really has nothing to do with money, though. I want to be near my family.Automatik;1510403 wrote:I had this way of thinking once.....and then I moved. -
Scarlet_BuckeyeI love San Francisco. I've been there 3x now, and it has everything - the offerings of a major city like NYC, but without the "concrete jungle" -like feel to it; and the "green" feeling/likeness of the midwest. Oh... and did I mention it's a GREAT place for boating? I absolutely love San Francisco.

SonofanumpI like my cost of living.
