Question for the runners

  • bases_loaded
Wife and I just started running(jogging). I have a pair of Nike's and while Im running and after I have all kinds of pain on the sides of my feet, mostly the outside. Is this normal or do I need to get a better fit of shoes...what brand is best for apparently wide feet?
  • Commander of Awesome
Always heard New Balance are good for wide feet.
  • like_that
I have wider feet than the average joe, and I run with the ASICS gt series. Has worked out well for me so far.
  • friendfromlowry
In my opinion, Nike & Adidas make shoes look "cool" while New Balance and Asics (always my favorite) actually make them comfortable and designed for runners.
  • Iliketurtles
Yeah what ccrunner said. I'm an Asics fan myself.

I would go to a fleet feet, dave's, or any other running store and someone there could easily help you find the best fit for your feet.

Some brands also provide their running shoes in widths, New Balance I'm thinking of in particular.
I've found Saucony's seem to have a wider toe box than Asics. I also recommend Mizuno and Brooks for running shoes.
Curious what kind of "shoosh" shoe are you wearing?

Find a legit running store (example- Front Runner on Lane Ave. in C-bus) the real running stores (not the footlocker at the mall) will have knowledgeable staff who should let you try on the shoe and even jog around a bit to test them out.
Usually a sign the staff know what they are doing is when they have you walk around barefoot. They'll check for pronation issues.

I live in Dover, OH...no running stores near by, Im going to buy a pair off Amazon, looking for the best chance at not fucking up the decision, the Nikes are Lunarlon?
  • bases_loaded
Whats a "trail" running shoe from New Balance...designed for off road or are they good for running streets?
  • Laley23
    I use New Balance.

YAre you willing to visit a legit running store up around Canton? Second Sole.
    http://www.secondsoleohio.com/#!canton/c1g7x

Your best chance of not fucking up the decision is visiting a real running store.

At least have them recommend the shoes. They can fit you properly. You are going to want to try them on first. If you buy them at Second Sole or online doesn't matter.
It's stupid of you to purchase a running shoe before ever trying it on.

ccrunner & said -- are shin splints something adults commonly develop? Or is mainly a young runner problem.

Yea they maybe cheaper on Amazon or even some cool color might be available online that's not at Second Sole but that's a great chain of running stores in NEO.

You're much happier with the purchase when the shoe feels just right. I've found particular models and brands which slightly change from one year to the next that no longer fit right.

Just tell whoever helps you N.ke sucks and you are needing help with a real running shoe. ;)

Anyone gets them. Usually their is a cause to the shin splints. New to running, an increase in mileage, improper fitting shoes and even the surface being ran on can all be causes to shin splints.

Go to a running shoe store and have them help you. Somewhere that specializes in running like Second Sole. They'll be able to get you a shoe that's right for your stride, foot type, etc.

What a great suggestion. Thank you so much

Others probably have said it but go to a running store that have a ton of diff shoes, and I dont mean a foot locker or finish line. They let you try them on and run in them. Some have treadmills, and others just have you go outside.
When you and the expert start narrowing down the ones you like put one brand on one foot, and another on the other so you get a step by step comparison.

Also dont really listen to others like people on here wtih diff brands, nor do you just buy the coolest looking or the most expensive. I would go to running stores with a list of 4-5 that got great reviews and then try them on and hate them.

Just like there are beer snobs you also have running shoe snobs. I have ran quite a bit in 4-5 diff brands and right now what is best for me is a nike lunarfly. Just work the best for me. I have had some nikes that have totally sucked.

Asics were good, but didnt last as long. Had some good new balance...go and try them all.

and also..dont try to run too much, too fast to start out as it will just frustrate ya

Sometimes they are a bit more expensive as they are online but you are also paying for their expertise. My running store closed in teh spring, endurance sports in dayton but each time i went i made sure I got a pair. SUbsequently I would by more online until the model changed too much or was discontinued and then go back.

This. Every shoe fits slightly differently. I know I'm repeating myself here but ya really gotta hit up a running store to try some models on and have them help ya. Getting fit for the right shoe makes all the difference.

Usually once ya figure in shipping the price difference is minimal between the legit running store and ordering online.
Only reason I can think of an advantage buying online is if looking for a specific color. Buddy of mine was able to find a ltd. ed. Mizuno online (it was red....) that couldn't be ordered from the local running store.

yeah..if you know your model and such you can do a search and look for it in specific colors. Makers change the colors often so you can find "older" models of the exact shoe online from places that have extra. A model I loved they discontinued and I found it online from a place that had surplus and they were green and yellow oregon colors. didnt care of the colors..just wanted the model.

It gets frustrating when they discontinue a model. In the latest nike catalog they dont have a replacement for the one I like so I may have to hit a up a running store once I cannot find anyone with that model any longer

I have a pair of these. GOAT running shoes!
  • GOONx19
I wear Asics 2100 series. I usually put about 800 miles on them before getting a new pair.
