I disagree that "professionals" are lining up for $30k. Yeah, maybe in a ****ty job market but otherwise college grads are looking for something more than that. Even the teacher works, as mentioned just 184 days PLUS has great benefits. And it's a crappy job with no upside/future.

So I disagree that $15/hr is as appealing or going to completely change the competition.
My sister in law makes $37,000 a year answering phones. She has ok benefits. I can tell you that there are thousands of millennials that would take a job in retail that pays $15.00/hour. And even more Gen-X soccer moms that will work at the local boutique shop for fun if it pays that much.

You can't just double the wages and expect no change. We are at the lowest employment participation rate in several decades.

I didn't say there would be no change. Flipping burgers is still crappy work (and boring, and not at all appealing to people with college degrees), and at $15/hr with no benefits not that well paying, either. The soccer mom isn't going to work at McD's any more than she could take a job waitressing right now and probably pull-in @ $15/hr with tips.

There would be some labor market distortions, but the brunt of it would be felt in higher prices and fewer jobs.

The 2/3 of minimum wage workers who are adults and the 4 in 10 that are the sole bread winners in their family had better get second full time jobs, lower their desired standard of living, pull out the beanie weanie and bread and accept that they are p00rz because they want to be p00r/deserve to be p00r cus they produce little economic value and aren't entitled to a living.
