The best way to help the poor is to create an environment where they can find a job, learn some job skills, gain work experience, understand the value of a dollar earned, and appreciate business owners who risk all they have to provide a good or service that people need as well as provide jobs. However, when we have labor market distortions caused by government intervention, i.e. minimum wage, then we often price individuals out of the labor market and they never have the chance to learn the basic work skills they need to one day move up the economic ladder, a ladder that is highly fluid and dynamic. To me, that is cruel and unusual punishment inflicted upon the poor and can lead to a life of welfare -- sickening. We can do so much better than that, if only government would get out of the way and allow free markets to flourish.Sage;1493652 wrote:I havent read this thread but the anti-poor people in this thread i hope god is real so they can go to hell. to live in america and be anti-poor is hilariously awful. it's also telling on urself for leading a ****ty, unsatisfactory life. -

You are the worst poster on this site. Hope this helps. SageHonestly, ICLFAN, i take that as a badge of honor given the amount of fuck-wits that frequent this website. You don't go to hell for having opinions on other people? Have you even read the bible, you myopic fuckhead?

I have read it. Show me where it says you can't have an opinion. No one is anti poor either you simpleton. Just because you think poor people should work harder, or you think people are products of their own life decisions doesn't make it wrong. All you do one here is say dumb fucking comments instead of bring an actual world view to the conversation. You're a joke.Sage;1494037 wrote:Honestly, ICLFAN, i take that as a badge of honor given the amount of fuck-wits that frequent this website. You don't go to hell for having opinions on other people? SageLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Yes, that's exactly what Jesus said: "Poor people should work harder." He definitely didn't preach against disdain for the poor or say it's tougher for a camel to be threaded through a needle than for a rich man to get into Heaven.
Try reading and thinking critically, you fucking nitwit. -
Con_Alma...it's tougher because it's usually accompanies a mindset which doesn't lend to an acceptance of Christ as the eternal Savior. It being "tougher" doesn't mean it determines whether you go to hell or not.
Being wealthy or not doesn't detemine your eternal fate...nor does any particular stance on wages or the poor. -

Which they won't if their dimwitted quest to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 hour is successful. They are too stupid to realize they will price themselves out of their own jobs as the millions of college graduates currently unemployed will gladly take $15.00/hour to work at McDonald's and McDonald's will be more than happy to take them. There is no way many of the current fast food employees would compete with the legions of currently unemployed with more experience and education - the only reason they have jobs now is because it isn't worth the while of a recent Bachelor degree recipient to spend 40 hours a week at $7.50 when they would rather be utilizing their time networking and looking for a better job - you raise that to $15.00 and many people will accept that. Currently unemployed spouses, older people that have been forced out of work, at some point no one is too proud to turn down flipping burgers. $15.00/hour sure beats a lot of other professional gigs. -

You do realize we are still only talking about $30k a year?Manhattan Buckeye;1494213 wrote: $15.00/hour sure beats a lot of other professional gigs. -
Manhattan BuckeyeWhich many spouses will be glad to take even at part time, or college grads.
Do you know how crap the job market is? Some contract attorney positions pay less than $15.00 an hour - in many poorer districts teachers may not start out at $30,000. I don't care if it is shoveling crap (literally) if $15.00 is offered in some areas of the country thousands of people will apply for it.
--edit, as a corollary my wife's direct report made about $70K a year and still moonlighted on weekends as a clerk at a specialty store. There was no way she was making $15/hour but she was still willing to do it (her husband was in between jobs at the time). If you advertise that rate anyone that wants extra cash will jump on it. -

That $30k for the teacher is for about 184ish days so not a great comparison.Manhattan Buckeye;1494466 wrote:Which many spouses will be glad to take even at part time, or college grads.

Also, making $15 an hour at Chez Mcdo wouldn't equal $30k a year since nobody there works 40hrs a week. It'd be closer to 20-25k. That said, $15/hr minimum wage is still probably an idea that doesn't make much sense. -
Manhattan BuckeyeThere is no need for a comparison. If we introduce a $15/hour minimum wage every single minimum wage job in retail will go to soccer moms and anyone else currently not working and is bored or needs the extra money that will work for $15/hour that wouldn't work for half of that, and have far more experience and education than people currently working minimum wage. Ergo, the people wanting this are too stupid to realize they would price themselves into a new level of competition.
This is the point I apparently failed to make. -

No, I got your point.Manhattan Buckeye;1494520 wrote: This is the point I apparently failed to make.
I disagree that "professionals" are lining up for $30k. Yeah, maybe in a shitty job market but otherwise college grads are looking for something more than that. Even the teacher works, as mentioned just 184 days PLUS has great benefits. And it's a crappy job with no upside/future.
So I disagree that $15/hr is as appealing or going to completely change the competition. -
End of LineFucking stupid if you ask me. 15 an hour to flip burgers? Give me a break. I just got to a little over 15 an hour at Honda recently. How? Hard fucking work.
