Video of police department shooting a dog

  • SportsAndLady
This is getting a lot of very, very bad publicity for this police DP.

Edit: caution, this is semi-rough to watch

    What do you think?

I don't think I can watch it. There have been a lot of stories lately of cops shooting dogs in yards that the cops had no reason to be in. It's pretty fucked up. I can't imagine what I'd do if I witnessed a cop shoot one of my dogs. It would probably end up pretty badly for me.

    I wouldn't watch it then..it's pretty F'd up

Still though, I can't decide if the cops were in the wrong here. That's a pretty scary looking dog and if it was lunging at me, I'm not sure I wouldn't shoot either.

Looked like a young cop that completely panicked, or has a fear of big dogs. The dog did lunge at him, but there was no reason to have a gun drawn in that situation at that point. To be fair, that cop had just walked up and so had not observed the dog. But I still think an overreaction.

To top it off, it seemed like they arrested that guy just to be dicks because they didn't like him taping them. Although he kind of was asking for it (not the part about the dog, mind you).

    sickens me

Why the fuck did I watch that. That was fucked up.

I see both sides of the argument here. But that was still hard as hell to watch a dog go down like that.
  • vball10set
The dog lunged, so imo the cop had no choice. The biggest problem I have is seeing any living thing suffer, so either care for it immediately or put it out of it's misery.

Yeah I was pissed they wouldn't just shoot it again to put it out of it's misery. Don't let the thing suffer, jesus.

The dog went to bite him, he was just defending himself. Come on, "panicked or has a fear of dogs"? Everyone would have a fear of a dog like that lunging at you.

Just an unfortunate situation all around.

That dog lunged...seemed like a tense situation to begin with....things happen I guess.

Dog was simply protecting his owner.

But yeah..put one more in him and stop the suffering.

Dog owners fault!!! He had plenty of time to put the dog away. Feel sorry for the dog though, he was doing his job protecting his owner. To bad the owner didn't protect his dog! Sad situation all the way around.

i have not and will not watch it. i agree with justin though, if someone shot one of my dogs, i'd be going to prison.

however, after s&l's comments, any situation where my dog is beginning to be aggressive. it's automatic i take them away.

i won't comment on this situation because i refuse to watch the video, but i'm sure the fault lies on both parties. however, people will side away from the police i'm sure.

Let put this into the beginning of fault. The guy did not have to keep filming and focusing on the police more than the major event of the bust. The put his dog in the car without securing the animal and then confronting the police what was he thinking?. An when the dog was over reacting the man should of focused on the potential danger of this dog and informed the officers. The police should of planned a better method to arrest the guy or hold him with the dog. Poorly executed restraining him. What they forgot about the barking dog? Two wrong don't make a right

    Just watch the video

The guy was handcuffed that's why he couldn't control the aggression. He put him in the car but the window was down.

    No.

Umm why are the cops arresting a guy for filming them in public? Seems pretty f'd up to me. The government shouldn't be able to control what you can and can't tape in public areas. I also shouldn't have watched the video...disgusting.
  • OSH
I watched it. I don't have any problems watching it. Not the first time I've seen an animal shot.

I don't have any problems with it. I've been bit by a dog before. I wish I had a gun with me. I would've shot it.
  • Glory Days
For those who didnt watch it, the cop didnt just shoot the dog right away. the dog lunged at least once and i think twice.

i skipped ahead in the video, but it looked like the guy was doing more than just take video. sounded like he was yelling at the cops for various things. when its already a tense situation and you have some guy like that, you need to get him out of there or control him somehow until you are done so he doesnt getting the rest of the crowd involved.
  • OSH
Glory Days did a good recap of the video.

It's not like the cops provoked the dog and/or the guy in order to shoot the dog. There should've been no reason for the dog to attack the cops. Of course, we don't know the whole story...but, I do believe the cops were thinking the dog was going to attack them. It's not like the dog was just walking around or chasing its tail.

The dog was just protecting his owner. DOn't they have tazers? Why not just shock the dog?

I could be wrong on this but I remember hearing something about tazers are really bad for dogs, and might as well be like shooting them.

Could just be completely making that up lol can't remember for sure

    1. Dog owner was being a complete dick and I blame him for the whole event happening in the first place. He wasn't just recording them, he was yelling at them asking them why there aren't any black police officers. Cops are there to do a job, and he is obstructing justice.

    2. The dog can't be blamed. He was protecting his owner.

    3. Cops did what most people would do if a big strong dog lunged at them. Should they wait until after they are bitten to shoot?

Dude with the dog was probably going to post on world star hip hop with the title "fuck the police"
