Later in the day went to the "hill" for the stepson to sled......found a good workout on the way there and back. Put the rope around my shoulders and ran down there, and back, pulling him. Man that wasnt easy!
You're the asshole running in the snow when I'm driving and think "it's ok, take a day off" ha

Yeah, that day is today with the ice and rain.

I was doing barbell lunges today and did something to my right quadricep. I assume it is a slight tear from too much weight. It's sore, but I can walk with a slight limp. For anyone that has had something like this, how long is the recovery period?

Depends on how bad the tear is. Could be 4-6 weeks or if it is very minor you may feel pretty good in a week. Injuries suck.

Thanks. I don't think it's anything major. Should I avoid any activity that uses my legs - like the elliptical - even if it doesn't hurt too bad?

I have always been in the category of if it is not hurting you can do it. I know there are many that would say just rest it I just feel if what you are doing is not hurting it should not make it worse. Good luck!

Thanks. It feels a lot better today which suggests two things: 1. It wasn't too bad. and 2. I'm a wimp about injuries.

Think I officially snapped with the weather. Typically the 15-20 degree weather wouldnt bother me, but last night I just got that chill and said fuck it. Officially done with winter running. Will force myself tonite and friday but this weekend plus brings warmer weather.

So you're not really done at all.

Ha. I guess not, but now instead of looking forward to going out and running it in I will have to force myself and not enjoy it! Just a couple more days tho....

Next Wednesday might be an outside day, might get up to 50 degrees.

I know the feeling. I was always a pretty good winter runner. But around March 1st, I just would lose will to take on the cold and wind another day.

I have retired from running due to my knees and spring is the time I miss it most. Nothing better than a run on that first 50 degree day.

I just started wondering.....was it a mental thing because I saw the forecast earlier in the day that it is supposed to get into the 50's next week. Could have been. 30's this weekend will be good and then it all should be getting better and better. For whatever reason it really hit me quickly.

This can sometimes be tougher than an actual scheduled workout.

Hope you used your legs and not your back.

Not to mention a nightmare on your back the way most people shovel.

Agreed. My weight equipment is in my garage and there's a nice pile of snow just outside the entrance door. Unfortunately, there's a downward slope toward that door. When we got that bit of rain, some of the melted snow went underneath the door into my garage so I'm going to need to shovel my back yard before it melts. Don't want the equipment underwater.

Yep. I did a good bit of shoveling Monday because of all the snow Sat night/Sunday morning and because the landlords had to be away dealing with a family emergency, so they weren't here to get the driveway plowed. Worked for about an hour to 75 minutes in order to clear away enough to get up and down easily. Woke up the next morning and had sore muscles in my back and thighs that I don't get from my regular exercising.

Although I liked that different sort of workout from shoveling I said the hell with it and got a snowblower last year.

In a semi-related note we spring forward this weekend. The first full day of the work week, monday, there is a 25% increase of heart attacks that day than a normal day. So.....may be a day to take it a little easier. I dont feel I am at risk but I always schedule my workouts around having that monday off from working out.

And believe it or not, when we fall back in the fall there is a 20% decrease inthe days after we change time back.

Typically I push it but it was too deep with and inch or so of ice slush at the bottom. I'm very cautious of my form to protect back and also heart (grandpa passed away from a heart attack after shoveling).....we actually went out and did one more driveway and made $170 on the day and enjoyed the time/lesson of not being afraid of hard work with my 11 year old son.

My hamstrings, gluts, abs, pecks are all pretty sore but back is good today.

Neighbor at one house yesterday was having a hell of a time with his snow blower....is there a certain amount of snow that bogs them down?
  • Pick6
This is workout and lifting thread, not snow blower discussion. Thanks.

anyone going to hit up the Arnold Expo this weekend?
