Xbox One Revealed
-
gorocks99It won't be backwards compatible, but neither will the PS4 (upgrades in architecture make it too difficult to bridge between the old hardware and the new). The PS4 did say old games would be downloadable.
The Kinect is part of the package and will not be sold separately, is my understanding. It will need to be connected for the console to work, but you won't be required to use it (that is, you can still use the old controller if you want). What that means for price could be a deal breaker.
Blocking used games, haven't heard anything about. We'll see on that one.
Edit: Mohican beat me to it with links.
I am still leaning toward the One rather than the PS4 as a casual gamer, but as mentioned earlier, this will and has pissed off the hardcore gaming community. -
ts1227As a casual gamer, like I said before I'll wait until my 360 blows up and/or I get bored of my current set of games in a few years. Did the same thing with my PS2 before I bought the 360 finally in 2008.
Anyone going next gen at the outset may want to try and unload current gen games now on Amazon or something because they will lose value quick as more people upgrade to shit that can't play them. -
Hb31187Mohican you complained about "blocking used games " in one post, and then in the next post gave a link that debunked that myth.....
-
robj55Curious to find out some of the launch titles.

"The Xbox One does support used games and it does support game sharing -- but the details are in some cases a bit murky"Hb31187;1446518 wrote:Mohican you complained about "blocking used games " in one post, and then in the next post gave a link that debunked that myth.....
Reread the article - I wouldn't say it's debunked at all -
Hb31187http://i.imgur.com/uCRHXv8.jpg That was the only thing murky as to whether they were going to charge for it.
And directly quoting a part of an article that says it DOES support used games kinda directly debunks the used games myth...... -

they most certainly are going to charge. you wont be able to play used games or even borrow your friends game without paying it sound like. they are trying to completly cut out gamestop -
Hb31187This seems to be getting as much attention and articles with nothing to back what they're reporting on as the whole "Always online" thing did. We saw how that turned out. Ill believe the having to pay for used games things when its official

Why would they want to cut out a large distributor?Gblock;1446574 wrote:http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/xbox-one-play-used-games-questions-linger-213743272.html

Gblockwell ps4 has already said that it will play used games period. its really quite simple to do. if they dont charge, it wont be because they didnt try, but rather they couldnt get it done in time or find the correct way to do it.

they dont like the money gamestop is making..millions off of used games and they get nothing.WebFire;1446583 wrote:Why would they want to cut out a large distributor? -
Midstate01Thats retarded. Cut out used games will cut into people buying new games too. Id never have played bf3 if it wasnt for the buying the first battlefield used and seeing if I liked the series. I do that with other titles too.

I would think that approach would hurt more than help.Gblock;1446585 wrote:they dont like the money gamestop is making..millions off of used games and they get nothing. -
Gblocknot saying i agree with it but for some reason they dont like gamestop and want to open up their own system for the used games to keep all the money. its super greedy and will cause the price of used games to rise. and they are already getting to high imo.
that being said i got a groupon for the tiger woods 13 masters edition for 15.00 got it yesterday -

Yeah, I could see with how things are so online-oriented now, they could easily have virtually every title they wanted online, so people would have to pay their price to download them in a way to freeze out places like GameStop. Especially when you add in stuff they're already doing, such as giving free DLC or bonus add-ons to people who buy games new instead of used. They could charge more than GameStop but claim they're giving people the convenience of doing it from their couch instead of by driving to a store to pick up a copy.Gblock;1446599 wrote:not saying i agree with it but for some reason they dont like gamestop and want to open up their own system for the used games to keep all the money. its super greedy and will cause the price of used games to rise. and they are already getting to high imo.

I dunno, I'm just getting apathetic about the future of gaming. I've bought something from every gen of systems since the Atari 2600 (well, I guess to be accurate, for the 2600, 7800 and NES, my parents bought them for me...the SNES, PS, PS2 and 360 were all me, though) and it seems I wind up probably having more fun going back and playing older games. It's rare that I buy a new game...usually like to wait until I can get it used for under $20, so if I wind up thinking it sucks or it's really glitchy, I didn't really lose out that much.
I could eventually get a new-gen system, but it'll be a ways down the road. And likely for the sole purpose of playing the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. Western RPGs are probably 90% of what I enjoy of the new stuff, so I am looking forward to seeing how those progress. -

I have noticed this to be true to a point. For me part of it seems to be because back in the day no one cared about things being wrong or not making sense in a game. People just played to have fun. Now everyone bitches and argues over every minute detail of it instead of just enjoying it. You play the old games and nostalgia over all the glitches and fun you had.Heretic;1446608 wrote: I dunno, I'm just getting apathetic about the future of gaming. sportchamppsCall of duty ghosts will be available for the Xbox one so will FIFA

JugheadI like this quote that I saw on a yahoo link about the used games issue...
"Y'know why it's called the Xbox One? 'Cause Microsoft took 359 steps back." -
Gblockif you like older games check on ebay/craigslist..i saw someone selling the original xbox loaded with several thousand games...nintendo, nes etc for 80.00 on craigslist last week. i also see people selling discs w/similar content for xbox and ps3 for about the same price from time to time

They're just ROMs/Emulators. Anyone with a computer can do the same thing. You can even buy adapters on Amazon/eBay that convert the old NES/SNES/PSX/N64 controllers into USB controllers, so you can play them just as you normally would, just at your computer.Gblock;1447025 wrote:if you like older games check on ebay/craigslist..i saw someone selling the original xbox loaded with several thousand games...nintendo, nes etc for 80.00 on craigslist last week. i also see people selling discs w/similar content for xbox and ps3 for about the same price from time to time
I have a SNES/NES adapter hooked up to my HTPC and I bust out Tecmo Super Bowl on occasion. -
justincredible
The only system I really play anymore is NES. N64 every once in a while. My PS3 is nothing more than a blu-ray player and amazon prime streaming box.Heretic;1446608 wrote:I dunno, I'm just getting apathetic about the future of gaming.
