No state tax but FEMA has practically declared the entire state a flood zone. Big brother will get paid one way or the other.

Lottery tickets are annuities. You can take the cash option, which is about 60% of the actual amount or take the annuity installments which actually pays out to $600m.

I won 12 bucks! woohoo! Made 2 dollars lol.

It's taxed as ordinary income. I believe 25% is withheld federally, but they'll obviously be in the 39.6% bracket at the end of the day.

Which would you choose? Give me the lump sum, I doubt I see 30 anyways lol

No way you ever take the annuities, taxes are going to only go up. 30 years from now taxes may be 60%. Get your money while you can.

Yeah, higher rates plus inflation would make taking the payments a very bad decision.

Anyway, I haven't hit an actual powerball in a long time. I had 10 tickets, and the computer spit out the same powerball on 3 of them. How does that happen?

Imagine winning in CA and getting hit with an additional 13% state income tax. Hard to complain, but shelling out @ $40M of your winnings to the great sunshine state might sour one on income redistribution.

I'm sure CA would get their money somehow, but it would be interesting if you moved and established residence somewhere with no state income tax before claiming your prize.

I don't know if it's true and don't want to do the math, but someone told me today that if the there was no tax deduction you could actually buy every number combination and end up making about seven hundred bucks.

Im sure it is...but its a HUGE risk. You have to be the only winner. What if you split it...4-5 ways...

Also, if you have that much money to spare, fuck playing the lottery lol.

Lump sum. Invest 25%, spend 25%, family 25%, save 25%.

I like your thinking dlazz..... Or I could own part of Hawaii. Ain't going to happen to me though....10 bucks ($) can't even buy me a pizza (+beer), I would have came out ahead just by just not playing the game. But if you're not in, you can't win.

Thanks for helping with hasbeen's dog. I've never met you or him (face to face) but its nice to know people will help you when they need it.

And the latest is some kind lady let this sweet old women cut ahead of her in line.

Not quite sure how it works, but I don't know that the lady would have actually gotten the winning ticket if she hadn't let her cut. At least, that's what I would have to convince myself of. Maybe that sweet old lady will throw her a few million.
