  I'll always buy my numbers last-minute and get horrible results. Not sure it matters, but I don't know exactly how the machine auto-picks. I thought it used to select randomly from numbers not already in play.

  Don't know where I read otherwise, but yeah doesn't make sense. Really doesn't make sense to not just randomly generate the number, and I'm not sure the tech was there to pick randomly from unselected numbers.

  You choose five numbers between 1 and 59, and then one powerball number between 1 and 35. This number may or may not repeat one of your first five numbers. You then hand over money to a complete stranger at the gas station and never see it again.

  This. Usually it's a migrant worker or taxi cab driver (who became a U.S. citizen few years ago) who wins the lotto. It's never a real 'merican.
