    I agree with you, as this has always been my main concern. Truthfully, I have basically zero knowledge about how they will deal with DWIs related to marijuana. Is there a test out there that is as fast and effective as a blood alcohol reading?

    I have never smoked and I never will smoke, so all of this has no effect on me. That said, as long as it can be be safely regulated (I know, I know...one of the worst words ever according to those Libertarians out there), I am fine with it being legalized. Will I campaign for it or vote for it? That remains to be seen.

    Back to your original point. I was talking to sherm's father-in-law last night (he's going to paint our house) and he noticed my Gary Johnson bumper stickers. We started talking about that and he said he is pretty libertarian with his views, just not with drugs (yet). He said it was likely a generational thing but he'd need some serious convincing to get behind drug legalization.

    IMO, there really isn't a concern with this. There was also a video floating around a few months ago where they tested the effects of smoking while driving and it took quite a bit to negatively impact the driving ability of the participants. And they came from all over the spectrum of pot users, from the multiple times a day toker to the every once in a while toker. It's certainly not a conclusive study but the results were pretty much what I was expecting. That said, I never drive when I smoke. Unfortunately that isn't always the case when I drink.

    I have ridden with two or three different people who drove after smoking (obviously my choice), and I fully believe that their driving ability was affected. All of my college roommates and close friends smoked on a regular basis, and just being around them I could tell that their reflexes and thought processes were impaired. Is it to the same degree as alcohol? Maybe not. I obviously have no first-hand experience to rely on when when it comes to comparing. But, until there is a conclusive study out there, all I can go by is what I was witness to.

    When I used to smoke, it was very hard for me to drive. When I took pot, it definitely impaired me.

    Like I said, I don't drive when I smoke. I'm not sure how much it would affect me, I just don't want to take that chance. I tend to make better decisions when I'm stoned.

    I also don't think that legalization would lead to some mad rush of stoned drivers on the streets. Also, an accident at 13mph isn't going to do much damage anyway. :)

    Not the same as driving, but if I'm any indication, I wouldn't want to be on road with any smoker going over 45 or so. Kind of hard to describe, but it's like you're able to focus on what you're doing, but it's more of a tunnel vision focusing where it was hard to focus on everything that a driver should focus on. So I was constantly keeping tabs on my speed because I wasn't able to intuitively hit the 55-60 mark and kept going up to 65 and then down to 50. I guess you could say I was essentially driving okay, but it wasn't something I wanted to do, as the act of doing so at highway speed was kinda stressful.

    So the only time I might drive after that is if I'm going across my small town to a friend's. 35 is much more easily manageable.

    I don't think so either, because most of the people that will smoke when it's legal are already doing it.

    Yep. There will obviously be a bunch of people giving it a try but I doubt the number of regular smokers will increase much.

    That is a catch22 for someone with a Libertarian view. Allow it, but have it regulated for the good of society.

    As long as it's legal for me to grow my own plants at my house I won't care. I wouldn't buy from state regulated sources if I didn't have to.

    Yeah. I only care about how your comsumption effects me. I don't want to have to deal with stoners behind the wheel. I could care less if you pass out in your bathtub with a bag of Funyuns and maple syrup on your body.

    Agree. That is the only consumption regulation even needed.

    That's illegal? Guess I know so many people who make/can easily acquire it, I had no idea. One good thing about living in a rural area. EVERYONE MAKES MOONSHINE.
