Google on Easter

Cesar Chavez on Google for Easter Sunday? Not what I expected today.
While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday.[LEFT]

Has Google ever recognized absurd holidays in the past?

I'm not so sure about that. Make that 2 that think theres no reason for an Easter theme.

You know what, make that THREE!!!

I honestly do not give a damn.
There are more important things to get all huffy about.
Google can do whatever. What are you going to do, not use Google?

Four, but if not an Easter theme, then how about an Easter Island theme :D

I can see people getting all huffy and puffy about it, but I am OK with the non-Easter Google Doodle. It makes way more sense to have a doodle about someone who actually existed.

OMG GOOGLE DETERMINES OUR HAPPINESS LET'S ALL FIGHT!!!!

Whatever. Its a little odd since they do all the other Christian Holidays (and usually all holidays in general) to just leave Easter out...

Regardless of whether they do an Easter theme, it seems like pretty poor taste to honor Chavez instead. If they did nothing, I wouldn't care. But this seems like an intentional slight.
  • Sykotyk
Add another to the 'don't care' tally.

    Agree with this.

But I don't really care that much.

Agree with this as well. But count me in as another who doesn't really care and is kinda glad not to see an Easter theme.

If it pisses religious people off, I'm for it

I was wondering about that. Maybe the idea that some dude rose from the dead is too unbelieveable for Google.
  • Tiernan
Google did this to show how "cool" they are...huge fail dickheads.

Only religious idiots care. I put this in same category of FWK qqing bc on fathers day they don't put a picture of his dad up there.
  • hasbeen
And lol @ all the people on social media saying they're not going to use Google anymore.
  • friendfromlowry
So ccrunner and Tiernan are the ones who care....Hmmm....
  • krambman
I don't really care, but this isn't the first time Google has done something like this. I remember a few years ago there was a big stink because they did a doodle for a non-Christian religious holiday (a Hindu holiday, maybe) but have only ever done secular themed doodles for Christian holidays (Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, etc). Really, it's not that big of a deal that they didn't make one for Easter this year, but making one for Hugo Chavez does seem a bit odd, even for Google.

Are you actually saying that Jesus isn't an actual historical figure? Like, you think he may just be made up and didn't actually exist as a real person? Whether you believe the details of his life (such as the resurrection) as laid out in the gospels and elsewhere is up to you, but making the supposition that he didn't exist is simple ignorance. The actual existence of Jesus is a well confirmed historical fact. Though they may argue about the facts of his life, no historian doubts that a man named Jesus lived and was a powerful rabbi in Israel. He is an actual historic figure. Do you doubt the existence of Caesar? because there almost five times as many ancient texts about the life of Jesus than about the life of Caesar and many were written closer in time to when Jesus actually lived than those about Caesar.
