    What does it matter?

If I get pulled over for speeding but tell the officer I didn't know the speed limit, it is promptly brought up that "Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law." And he's right. Even though I didn't know it was the law, I still broke it, and am still responsible. But if I kill people, I can plead "insanity" and say that I didn't understand right from wrong; and even though I broke the law, I didn't KNOW I was breaking the law, and should be found innocent. Is that how it works? So if you didn't know you were breaking the law when driving too fast, you're still responsible. But if you kill people and claim you didn't know you were breaking the law, you're free to go?

This solidifies that guns don&#8217;t kill people, people do. You can&#8217;t ban or limit crazy&#8230;. </SPAN>

The Chinese had a torture where they would lower the criminal into boiling water/ oil up to their waist and then remove them and let them die a slow and painful death of rotting and infection as their skin and muscle peeled from the bone. </SPAN>

The sad thing about a crime like this is that there will never be closure for the families...their loved ones will never be back. Nothing could be done to this guy that makes them whole. That's what makes a crime like this the worst possible thing.

No. You plead not guilty by insanity and the burden of proof lies on the defense to prove to the jury that the defendant's mental state is so distorted/morphed that he likely has no idea what law's he's broken are wrong.

Never the less, your speeding analogy is not incredibly strong. "Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law" does not apply to an insane person, since they have no idea what the line is between ignorance/good/bad/etc. He still broke the law, I agree, but in an insane persons mind he has no idea what law is. There's no "what if" in an insane persons mind, just "do".

In almost 99% of cases (and this one) the insanity defense gets tossed. It's far too difficult on the defense to prove that he was insane. Even if the defense held up, he'd just get tossed in a psych ward for the remainder of his life or until he is deemed "rehabilitated".

Point I'm trying to prove, is that he falls into a gray area between legit insane people, and your normal average joe in the clink for shooting a drug dealer. He doesn't give a shit what he did was wrong, he doesn't care if he lives the rest of his life in jail, or gets tied to the electric chair. In cases like that, what difference does it make what you do with him? This brings me to my previous point: from an economic standpoint, just execute him and leave his space in jail for another drug dealer/gangbanger.

Everyone pissing and moaning about "OH MAN HE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN THE DEATH PENALTY" is just a waste of time. The law is the law. He was a minor when the offense occurred, so he can't get the death penalty. So instead, he got the maximum sentence he was entitled to.

    It is what it is.

I absolutely agree. I had typed up something to the effect of this, but you summed it up nicely for me.

He won't last long in prison. If this was the game of Clue, I'd be guessing a 25-to-lifer in the shower with the 9-pound hammer.

Life in prison doesn't guarantee he won't be executed. It just guarantees he won't be humanely executed.

I read online that his parents were dirtballs themselves. Dad beat mom in front of the kids, got attempted murder, etc.

Like father like son, I suppose.

Occasionally they separate dirtballs from the general population. See Jerry Sandusky

I guess it's okay for insane people to commit murder, then.

He had a jacket or something on over it. And then he took it off. Not sure why they didn't drag his ass out right then.

Heard on the radio the judge "didn't see it." Well...nobody in the courtroom could've pointed it out? All they could do was gasp? WTF?

My sister works at a prison (either Grafton or Lorain) so he may be coming her way (he's going to Lorain, initially, from what I heard).

that makes more sense...i was wondering if it was a freedom of speech/expression type thing

He had a buttoned up dress shirt on when he entered the courtroom and then removed the shirt unveiling the t-shirt.

The prosecutor asked for the record to reflect that the defendent was wearing a t-shirt with the word "killer" printed on it. The Judge responded that he wasn't able to see it.

He was also a minor. Not sure how they handle that.

I love how everyone thinks rape is such a terrible thing until they are talking about men being raped in prison, then it's an okay thing.
