Office Pet Peeves
-
dlazzThe director of our IT group routinely calls members of the IT staff even though the furthest one of us sits not 20 feet away from his office. He's called our systems manager 4 times this morning and his office is next door. If he talked loudly, everyone could hear him.
It is annoying when HR sends out stupid safety emails. They sent out one a few months ago about the safety hazards of fixing popcorn in the microwave unattended. Apparently that warranted emailing the entire company about.
Also, it boggles my mind how people still confuse 'lose' and 'loose' on company correspondence. -
ernest_t_bassPhone calls boggle my mind, especially when there are other forms of communication that are less disruptive.

Raw Dawgin' it
When you don't have your own office, this is super annoying. Eating loud food (anything that crunches) and not using headphones are my two biggest ones. Using the microwave to heat things that smell like shit. If you reheat indian food in the office, you deserve a kick to face.ernest_t_bass;1403695 wrote:Phone calls boggle my mind, especially when there are other forms of communication that are less disruptive. -
AutomatikOur office is split between two floors and our receptionist will hunt down people if she has someone on the line for them.
We share a floor with the QC department and they is a test kitchen/common area. So you will hear a fucking chain of ringing phones as the receptionist attempts to find whoever the fuck they she is looking for.
Pisses me off. -

I agree, but there are some downsides to it. We have an IM client we use in office (Lync) and half of the time I have to get up and TELL people I sent them a message, thus defeating the purpose.ernest_t_bass;1403695 wrote:Phone calls boggle my mind, especially when there are other forms of communication that are less disruptive.
I'd still rather just get up and talk to someone before I call them, though. -

We have a VP who will do that. If she wants to talk to someone she will call everyone in our office until someone answers. And then she will ask you if Bob is there and when you tell her he isn't she wants you to give him a fucking message. Have you ever heard of voice mail?Automatik;1403705 wrote:Our office is split between two floors and our receptionist will hunt down people if she has someone on the line for them.

thavoiceAlways from a female....,
The ulta loud sigh.....It will continue until someone asks her 'what's wrong?'.
Its the verbal version of vaguebooking.
The putting up of signs in a store. Same person as above at one time had signs for: No bills over $50. No Loitering. No soliciting. No food or drink. No PUblic restroom. and WANTED to put up only 3 kids per adult.
She got the hint when I took them done! -
Commander of AwesomeI can't stand office gossip. Esp at my last place, it was poisonous. Literally had to tell the women in my office IDGAF and don't want to hear it.

Any time you get more than zero women in an office setting you can guarentee that gossip will reign supreme.Commander of Awesome;1403771 wrote:I can't stand office gossip. Esp at my last place, it was poisonous. Literally had to tell the women in my office IDGAF and don't want to hear it. -

This. When something really gets to me at work, I will go outside and take a 5 minute walk to clear my head; come back in and take care of the problem.Always from a female....,

When a woman has an issue, the whole office will know about it and it'll take a week of getting solved. She'll run around and complain to everyone and talk about how badly she needs either a drink or a vacation. Occasionally, she'll talk about quitting and how she doesn't make enough money to deal with all the stress. Gosh a ruddies, yes work can be stressful but it's stressful for everyone and most people here are making a fat salary anyway. -
Belly35Computer geeks ...
I pay to keep my system up and running ... I expect that to happen.. I have bought and paid for everything per the geeks specification .... make it work...
I need my internet working, e mail to go throw, the website functioning and the file server operational and backed up... anything less is not acceptable. -

Been in a number of settings with women who complained about the same thing...but....
*when an employee would need to come in late, or leave early, or take a longer lunch to run errands who would it be? The woman.
*when someone needs to stay late to accomodate a client whom passes it along to someone else? A woman.
*when extra time needs to be had to cover a saturday shift who is busy that day? The woman.
*when the roads get "bad" whom cannot make it into work? The woman.
Have worked with a number of women and a vast majority of the time when the opportunity to get more hours comes around it is the woman who finds a way/reason/excuse to not cover those hours.
Dont get me wrong......guys will occassionly do the same thing, but most times when it happens it would be the female.
The time that drove me over the edge was when I wanted a saturday off. A female was bitching how she didnt get enough hours and such. I wanted off saturday, of which it would be off at 1pm. Her excuse for not taking the hours? A hair appointment at 3pm. Yes. 2 hours after we would close. SHe didnt want to get stuck there two hours after we were to close..... -

I think I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure we work at the same place.thavoice;1403781 wrote:Talk about the whole not making enough money thing.........

Now that you say that I think you have mentioned it before, but no, I have never worked at McDonalds!sleeper;1403782 wrote:I think I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure we work at the same place.
But seriously, that has been the norm at each place I have worked.
And I will add one more statement...when a female wants off/come in late/leave early from work they come up with some 10 minute excuse/reason as to whom, what, when and why! When a guy wants off....he simply says 'hey, I need off at noon on ____' -
Fab4RunnerI love these threads.

TiernanWhen Mgt doesn't have the balls to single out people who need some "disciplinary guidance" but pull everyone together for some inane announcement about such n' such behavior no longer being tolerated when everyone in the room knows its just one person who has been doing this and everyone turns and looks at her.

like_thatMicromanagement is my biggest pet peeve. The worst is when your manager is a time nazi.

SonofanumpMaybe I should go back to the office now that I am finished with lunch. Maybe not.

HereticIn my office, which is pretty close quarters with six full-time and one part-time person:
1. Political discourse. There are a couple people who get into that. And will enter ranting commentaries on a regular basis. It's not so bad now that the election is over, but still can get annoying.
2. Family issues. One person has two bratty kids whom she gets in arguments with on the phone most days. The worst is when she, for whatever reason, brings the younger one by the office for brief periods of time. He's a fucking little retarded brat who has to constantly make noise. In other words, a young male version of her. But I could fill an O-Trap size manifest with all the annoying things about her. Last week, I came in here to listen to the full-time receptionist/bookkeeper argue with her husband through text messages while giving a play-by-play to the part-time one. Fucking great!
3. Gossip. Both in real life and from reading Hollywood gossip sites and entering into random commentary on Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, etc. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DIE YOU STUPID CUNTHOLES!!!! -

We have a manager who routinely gets into shouting matched with his kids while he's at work. My personal favorite was when he yelled at his 15 year old son and said "You are stupid mother fucker!"Heretic;1403825 wrote:2. Family issues. Lol, that kid is doomed. -

Political discourse.........The owner at my previous place was infamous fof this. Luckily he only came around 2-3 times a year. He was literally a card carrying member of the ACLU and was just as blatent as could be when he came in.Heretic;1403825 wrote:In my office, which is pretty close quarters with six full-time and one part-time person:

I got fed up with how he ran his business....or should I say the lack of the way he ran it. Yeah..having the owner come around 2-3 times a year was cool to a point, but it also shows no leadership whatsoever. The straw that broke the camels back was when the manager of the office let it slip that the owner felt I should have consulted in him BEFORE i enlisted in the reserves. Consult with him? I have a SIX month notice before I left. It wasnt my fault they wanted until 2 weeks before i left to hire someone.... -

friendfromlowryWomen are the worst. Day shift charge person will come in and bitch and moan about this or that (usually being short-staffed). Just fucking deal with it.
I work with another woman, in her early 30s. She's easy to get along with but she can be a suckabitch sometimes. Last weekend she called off work for like 5 days being sick -- and she was actually admitted to the hospital, so I don't blame her. What irritates me is two days after getting released from hospital, she went on a 5-day trip to Vegas they had been planning.
