Words that need to die

HereticI definitely agree with "baby momma/daddy". Congrats, people: you came up with a way for poor, stupid people to say "parent" that's painfully retarded.

It just seems so, I dont know, disrespectful I guess. Just dont know what bugs me about it. Maybe it is because those who say it are usually trashy and retarded kind of people I guessHeretic;1401303 wrote:I definitely agree with "baby momma/daddy". Con_AlmaIt's a passive agreessive attempt at absolving the speaker of ackowledging their own choice to have physically been intimate with the other parent.
It's sickening. -

And "prolly." It's probably, butthole. -

I hate it. Of course "it is what it is," it surely isn't going to be "it is what it isn't" or "it isn't what it is." -

So do you think it is okay for a famous woman to expose her midriff as long as is she isn't pregnant (à la basically every celeb who has been in a magazine)? Who decided that once there is a baby bump is becomes unacceptable?Manhattan Buckeye;1401273 wrote:I would presume you would wear clothing over it. I think most of the hatred (probably annoyance is a better word) is the recent phenomenon of celebrities exposing themselves in a manner that wasn't acceptable before - like Sleeper said normally we don't walk around with our midriffs out, heck I don't even walk to the men's room from our pool without putting on a t-shirt. My wife always wears a cover-up top and bottom even at the pool unless she's in it. -

There are times when an exposed midriff is "normal" and generally accepted, yes. That's not usually when there's a pregnant belly involved.Fab4Runner;1401346 wrote:So do you think it is okay for a famous woman to expose her midriff as long as is she isn't pregnant (à la basically every celeb who has been in a magazine)? Each person decides if they find something personally appalling or not but society collectively tends to shift appearances based on the responses they are getting as a whole.
It think it lacks humility and decency myself. -

Pretty much agree....there are a couple of ladies at our condo that are pregnant and hang out at the pool and I suspect most people are ok about it. They cool off in the pool, cover up and go back to their business.Con_Alma;1401354 wrote:Therre are times when an exposed midriff is "normal" and generally accepted, yes. Contrasting to my yahoo! a few days ago when Kristen (Kristin? don't know her name) Bell is showing it off as if anyone should care. It just smacks of a "look at me!" attitude that is a major turn-off for guys (and many women). -

I asked a few of the kids in the teen program, and they explained that it's indeed a passive aggressive way to acknowledge a person's child lovingly while acknowledging the other parent in as cold and detached a way as possible. My words, but the sentiment I got from them.

Logically, something cannot both be and not be at the same time and in the same respect. I believe that's one of the more accurate principles of Aristotelian logic.

Lol, I agree it sounds trashy. But it is always a little confusing when I talk about my daughter's mother. If I call her my ex, people assume we were married. If I say my daughter's mother it sounds a little strange and then they want to know more of the story. Baby mama is much more succinct and it's clear you were never married. Kind of another somewhat more polite trashy way to say "that chick I knocked up once."formervoice;1401241 wrote:Baby mamma, baby daddy, etc. -

Agree to disagree. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a bare, pregnant stomach. On the contrary, actually. I think growing a baby is a beautiful miracle.Manhattan Buckeye;1401364 wrote:Pretty much agree....there are a couple of ladies at our condo that are pregnant and hang out at the pool and I suspect most people are ok about it. And perhaps these women aren't showing off for anyone at all. Should they not live their lives simply because cameras follow them around? I see plenty of pregnant women at the beach or pool and no one pays any attention whatsoever. Why should a celebrity not be able to indulge in those same activities?
Your problem should be with the people and the publications who buy and sell said pictures and put them on websites and magazines. Not with the pregnant women who are simply going about their daily lives in most cases. -

"It is what it is" is just a way to say you don't like something but there's nothing you can do about it so you're going to make the best of a bad situation.OSH;1401319 wrote:Not a word, but I hear "It is what it is" all the time now.

I agree a growing baby is a beautiful miracle. A lot of things are beautiful miracles. That doesn't mean that modesty shouldn't prevail. -

I see your point, but the one I am making is celebrities aren't going about their daily lives, they are flaunting it. It isn't normal.
No one would confuse me for Channing Tatum, but even if they did I would be a embarrassed to just randomly pull my shirt up to flex my abs in front of a camera. -

I agree that every person decides. But you also stated that are times when an exposed midriff is "normal" and generally accepted, and that's not normally when a pregnant belly is involved. I have a problem with that, because I see no difference in a normal bare stomach and a bare pregnant stomach. What makes one normal and decent?Con_Alma;1401378 wrote:Do you disagree with my statement that each person decides if they find something personally appalling or not? Big difference IMO. Same reason no one wants to see a fat person's midriff. It's gross and not pleasant to look at.
