  When I think of marriage I think of two scenarios. I think of the guy who hates his wife, job, kids, basically everything ever. Then I think of what I feel your marriage is like, where you guys are basically best friends.. if that makes sense. That's what Jessica and I have (weird that our ladies have the same name lol), so we'll get married eventually.

  I've been with my gf/fiancé or w/e lol for 4 years now. I've lived with her for 3&1/2 of that and we have a 2& 1/2 year old. Still haven't gotten married mainly because of money / I want to make sure I want to spend the rest of my life with her. We're both about to be 23 so were in no hurry.

  To be perfectly honest, I think the the social/legal benefits should go the way of the dinosaur and that there should be no recognition of marriage legally. If you have a culture background that celebrates it or do it for spiritual reasons, it shouldn't be required that there be a legal document stating it.

  My wife doesn't have to clean much. Since we relegate most of our mess to our bedroom and my office, most of the house stays clean anyway, so the cleaning part is no big deal. She's an excellent cook. I wouldn't mind if she wasn't though.

  Am currently married and wouldn't trade it for anything.
  Personally, I think a big factor on how someone feels about marriage is based on what they grew up around too. My parents have been married for 38 years and hers for 30. Both were very strong role models on what a strong, loving, healthy marriage should look like. I never heard the arguing and fighting that some of my friends went through. So I never really had a negative outlook on marriage.

  That may be true, but for me a in a slightly different way. Both my parent were divorced twice and married 3 times before I got married. My wife's parents divorced slightly after our wedding. My dad was pretty non-existent during my childhood. I think it made me realize their mistakes and I was determined not to follow in their footsteps. My wife and I dated 5 years and owned a house before we got married. We waited over 3 years after being married before having our first kid.

  I don't fully understand the interest in defining if marriage is or is not the norm. If it's for you and your mate then great. It's available for you. If it's not for you, you certainly aren't forced into it by any means.
