Mumford and Sons

sportchamppsThey choose Troy, Ohio as part of their traveling Festival this year. They choose a few small towns and try to help stimulate the local economy. It will be Labor Day weekend and tickets go on sale Friday for $109. It will be a camping festival with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros headlining Friday before a full day of music Saturday ending with Mumford.

gutSo their plan to stimulate small town economies is to charge $109 a ticket where the average wage is like $8 an hour?
-
Fab1bSeriously like this crap?

And there will be no shortage of ticket sales.gut;1382674 wrote:So their plan to stimulate small town economies is to charge $109 a ticket where the average wage is like $8 an hour? -
gorocks99I do like them, a lot, and would consider driving to Troy to see them. I think they're thinking it will draw people in from other places - about a 5-hour drive from Chicago and I know there will be people from here that go down for it.
Now, that said, I don't know how much people will spend in the town itself. A lot will probably just bring in their own provisions and do a quick in-and-out. Would be interesting to see if they decided to set up tents with only local companies at the festival (for food, drink, etc.). Would be one way to involve at least a few local companies on the grounds itself.
Also, it should be noted that the $109 includes your campsite and both days. Sounds like the campsite will be close to a commercial area as well - from the website:
We have worked with the people of Troy to create a truly unique camping experience. The historic levee on the banks of the Great Miami River will become the main campground, enabling thousands of fans to stay in downtown, steps from the event and the shops and restaurants of Troy. It’s not to be missed.
The two-day event will begin Friday, August 30 in the evening, and continue with a full day of music on Saturday, August 31 at Troy Memorial Stadium. Downtown Troy will host a series of aftershows and events that will take place throughout the weekend. -

They do this because the majority of tickets will not be from local residents. If only local residents bought tickets that really wouldn't stimulate the economy there much. It get's stimulated by all of the outsiders who come in for a few days and spend money on groceries, gas, camping supplies, etc. By your logic the Super Bowl didn't stimulate the economy in New Orleans because the tickets we over $500 each so most people in the city couldn't purchase them.gut;1382674 wrote:So their plan to stimulate small town economies is to charge $109 a ticket where the average wage is like $8 an hour? -

LMAO...not a remotely valid comparison.krambman;1382702 wrote: By your logic the Super Bowl didn't stimulate the economy in New Orleans
But $109 for 2 days and a campsite isn't a bad deal at all. -
ernest_t_bassI thought this was stoopid till I saw it was a two day event. $109 not bad.

I actually think it was a decent one...not many in NO bought tix to the game. A lot of tourists came into town, bought tickets, spent money on food, hotel, attractions, etc. Pretty comparable to this.gut;1382747 wrote:LMAO...not a remotely valid comparison.
By the way...I'm going to this. I love Edward Sharpe and I like Mumford too. -
sportchamppsThe campsites will be downtown very close to Troy shops and restaurants. Maybe they shouldn't try and help at all and just charge that price in a big city (still sell as many if not more tickets) like everyone else. Their also bringing an opportunity for the locals to see a huge band playing in their own hometown as well as some other pretty good bands.

Ummm, SB is a once a year event that attracts people from all over the world. They fly in and go to hotels and restaurants.SportsAndLady;1382804 wrote:I actually think it was a decent one...not many in NO bought tix to the game. Mumford & Sons, like most groups, tour all over and have a far more limited following. People will be almost 100% driving and bringing pretty much everything they need with them. -

Tell me more about how people don't spend money in little towns they visit for a rock concerts. -

No probably will get things hopping. Just like when huge country stars come to Toledo and everyone from the rural parts of NW Ohio flood the city. It's unreal how crazy busy the city gets those nightsgut;1382984 wrote:Ummm, SB is a once a year event that attracts people from all over the world. They fly in and go to hotels and restaurants.

sportchamppsBTW Mumford is only playing a handful of US Dates this year probably less then 10 and then at a few festivals where tickets cost $250+.

thavoiceGreat White did a concert in Celina Ohio a few years ago for a benefit. The hotel up the road said they were totally booked that night because of out of towners attending, and I know a local restaurant had well above average the afternoon of it as well so yeah...it probably will help some local economy.
People will travel an hour and more..some will stay in hotels, many will dine and drink at local pubs/restaurants.
Just hope they dont do any indoor pyro.... -
sportchamppsWell I looked into hotels and troy is booked solid for Friday and Saturday
